Bestine IV was an aquacultural planet in the Inner Rim Territories, near the Corellian Trade Spine. Nearly its entire surface was covered by a vast ocean, but there were many rugged islands spread across the planet.
The original population struggled for years atop the planet's Island Spires to create an island paradise. As time passed the planet was more widely known for it's small, but growing, ship repair and construction industry, which eventually caught on with the Galactic Empire, who constructed large naval shipyards.

Old Republic
Galactic Empire
The planet was a member of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. At some point, the Galactic Republic sent a fleet there, and Jedi Master Kit Fisto attempted to hail it to ask for reinforcements in capturing General Grievous on Vassek.
Later, its populace was displaced for the construction of an Imperial naval yard. This project was simply a massive expansion of the present naval shipyards, which were curiously located on the surface of the ocean, not in orbit. The displaced populace were promised a "new and exciting home", but, when the promise wasn't kept, most ended up scattering to other systems.
During an Alliance probe of possible new bases, and while orbiting Bestine IV, several Alliance cruisers were engaged by a Star Destroyer task force, which launched squadrons of TIE/sa Bombers to destroy the capital ships. Additional craft were sent by both sides to create a decisive result, as well as an Alliance ground assault. In the end, both sides lost many craft in orbit and the ground forces were left to fight for the planet. In space, continual mine laying proved to essentially interdict the planet, leaving the opposing ground forces and remaining civilian population trapped planetside.
By the time the planet was encountered by a Vast Empire scouting mission, decades of civil war has decimated the planet, and both sides has committed many, many atrocities, including some units turning feral and cannibalistic. The Stormtrooper Corps assisted more sane forces, under the command of an old clone commander, Major Haden, to reach a victory against both Alliance and rogue Imperial forces. Near space clean up work opened the planet to the rest of space soon after, and the long, tragic process of dealing with the aftermath of the war began.
