Blackjack HSC - 2011[edit]

Summary[edit]

Phoenix Company's debriefing of the mission at Observation Platform 86-Alpha, where Blackjack Squad's destruction of the station in order to deny the valuable resource to the enemy was criticized by VE Scientists, was interrupted by a man named Orr, who claimed to be an Advanced Recon Commando Team Leader. One of his fellow teams had gone missing, captured by a unit of elite mercenaries, and he needed the muscle of Phoenix Squadron to effect a rescue mission.

Blackjack, as the 'Elite' squad, would accompany Orr as he infiltrated the base that the missing ARC team had been tracked to, on the planet Anteevy. Once there, they would locate, recover and extract the (presumably) captured Commandos. Not used to missions involving stealth and subtlety, this would prove a unique challenge for Blackjack Squad, famed for their preference for frontal assaults and 'shock' tactics.

Operations[edit]

PHASE I[edit]

Location: Anteevy - Mercenary Base (Exterior)
Equipment:

   * Imperial SCOPE Trooper Armour
   * Camouflaged SCOPE Armour (Dunny & Crest)
   * One (1) Personal Choice Weapon

Orders: Make planetfall and find an entrance into the lower levels of the mercenary base - avoid detection.
Opposition: Regular sentry patrols - likely droids and small infantry teams.
Support: ARC Commander Orr.
Summary:
Blackjack Squad landed without detection, and realizing they would leave a highly visible trail in the snow, moved towards their insertion point as quickly as possible, locating the Air Vent that would be their entry. Commander Orr disabled the alarm system covering it, and the Scout Team, consisting of Dunny and Crest, rappelled down, eliminating a second alarm system as they effected entry. The unit managed to infiltrate the upper levels of the Mercenary Base completely undetected, and quickly located a stairwell guarded by an E-WEB position. The Scout Team silenced the guards without raising the alarm, permitting Blackjack Squad to move down to the lower levels of the base undetected.

PHASE II[edit]

Orders: Locate the missing ARC Team
Opposition: Suspected Company-strength Elite Mercenary Unit
Support: ARC Commander Orr & Stolen Mercenary Medic
Summary:
Blackjack Squad met another E-WEB checkpoint at the bottom of the stairwell, and Squad Leader Garryll Gates used a silenced slug pistol to eliminate the heavy weapon's crew quickly. However, the Scout Team immediately reported that the door leading further into the facility had a squad of mercenaries on the other side - thankfully unaware of the Blackjack's presence. Forewarned, the Elite Stormtroopers of Blackjack performed a Breach & Clear on the room, quickly and efficiently eliminating the guards, but were unable to do so before the alarm was raised. Their stealth compromised and a dug-in squad between them and their objective, Blackjack Squad abandoned caution and fell back on their Standard Operating Procedure of speed and aggression.

Only minor injuries were sustained as they faced off against the dug-in opposition, their sheer aggression and lack of regard for the conservation of ammunition too much for even the Elite Mercenaries to manage. The squad was then instructed to maintain their caution, and the Scout Team was assigned to rearguard. This proved a mistake, however, as Blackjack Squad walked into a well-prepared ambush by a squad of Elite Mercenaries using holoprojectors to hide their presence until the very last moment. The opening flurry took Soul down, and it was only through the quick thinking of Commander Orr that the squad was able to fight their way clear. However, as the squad had no Medic, Lance-Corporal Dunn counter-attacked the ambush and captured an enemy medic, forcing the mercenary to treat Soul's wounds.

Realizing they were running low on ammunition and in need of more firepower, Garryll ordered the rest of the squad to move towards the base's armoury, using information provided by Orr, and once again falling back on stealth (slowed as they were by their injured trooper), the squad quickly eliminated the armoury's guards and took what they could and rigged the Armoury to blow, denying the valuable resources and ammunition reserves to the enemy...

PHASE III[edit]

Orders: Locate the missing ARC Team
Opposition: Suspected Company-strength Elite Mercenary Unit
Support: ARC Commander Orr & Stolen Mercenary Medic
Summary:
Blackjack squad separated into two groups not long after blowing up the armory. One group, consisting of Garryll, Orr, Crest, and Soul (supported by the enemy medic), faced opposition that held them up. The other group, made up of Dunny, Valthir, and Kilroy, were relatively unnoticed, until Dunny came face to face with an E-WEB, which very nearly ended his life. A plan was quickly devised and Kilroy and Valthir distracted the E-WEB with a smoke grenade/thermal det combo, which allowed Dunny to traverse the air ducts above the corridor and drop down behind the pair operating the E-WEB. With the E-WEB out of business, they moved up and discovered a security room directly behind the E-WEB's position.

It wasn't long before the other group joined them and Orr set to work on the terminals, quickly finding the location of the ARC troopers. Meanwhile, Kilroy was operating the E-WEB, holding off a wave of mercs which had followed the other Blackjack group. The security room no longer held any use for them, so explosives were set up and Blackjack retreated down a maintenance tunnel, blowing the room behind them and sealing off one end of the maintenance tunnel.

They quickly descended four levels and found where the ARC troopers were being guarded. After taking out the single patrol, they moved in, only to find the guards having a battle of their own with the ARC troopers, who somehow had escaped.
