The Myth of Alliance[edit]

Written as of 12 ABY

Obviously, we are in opposition to the so-called New Republic. As terrorist agents, they targeted the legitimate galactic order and killed many troops, political officials, and civilians on thousands of worlds as they sought to usurp the established authority.

Did they have legitimate complaints of abuse, favoritism, false imprisonment, torture, possibly even genocide? In many cases, the Empire was not acting in a way friendly to it's citizens. There was a pro-Human bias. Experimental science went beyond the limits of morality. Individual local leaders became violent, petty tyrants.

Assessment of the Force using agents of Palpatine, from Darth Vader to his various secretive Hands is still pending, but it is clear that our Imperial hands were not as clean as propaganda would otherwise tell.

Did these acts deserve to define the image of the Empire, as Rebellion propaganda stated? Did every trooper, bureaucrat, agricultural agent, peace officer, and teacher deserve to be tagged as an agent of evil? Of course not. Decent people served their government and were killed for the immorality of others.

This is the crux of the Rebel Alliance, the still motivating factor behind the New Republic. A hatred of all for the acts of a few. And this poison may yet damn our adversaries in the long run.

As we learned during our Hast Campaign, non-human members of the New Republic cut a deal with Grand Admiral Thrawn's Imperial faction. We inadvertently exposed this, and revealed what we learned to the rest of the galaxy.

What resulted was the effect of decades of mistrust between humans and non-human species mixed with the cautious cooperation of anti-government forces working towards the same goal. With the Empire in tatters, the mistrust remained though the objective of toppling Palpatine had largely been achieved. Knowing your supposed comrades were betraying you shattered the Alliance.

The Corellians, predictably, left first. The five main worlds and their species looked inward, beefed up their defenses, and cursed all factions: human, alien, Imperial, Rebellion.

Others followed, with most keeping faction in the New Republic, when it serves them.

The division and dissolution of forces makes the former Rebels we may encounter a more fragile and vulnerable opponent. Bothans can build great capital ships, but not necessarily starfighters. Mon Cal fleets possess weaker destroyers than other manufacturers. Most armies we face will not be as competently led as the mixed forces the Rebellion could field.

While dangerous, it remains to be seen how long these factions can keep themselves together. These are factors we need to investigate and exploit to our advantage.
