Corvin started as a zealot, became a fanatic, and was worn down into a quiet cynic. Mission after mission, and the dirty work that goes with the job, has chipped away at his resolve and blind belief. Gone is the blabbering zealot with a tendency to recite guidelines verbatim. Instead, Corvin is now generally subdued outside of combat, with occasional, rare bursts of near-incomprehensible comments. Taking comfort in familiar routines, especially those involving his duty, Corvin is likely to become agitated if he's somehow unable to follow those routines. If pressed or forced to, he tends to fall back on old patterns and echo the official position or guideline. The Blackack trooper's picked up a few other, well-concealed nervous ticks along the way. Some are more problematic than others.

Despite everything he's seen and done, Corvin is still a believer in the rightness of the Vast Empire. Corvin was raised from childhood to believe in the Pax Imperialis, and he holds those beliefs to the present day. No matter what lies traitors and outsiders might speak, the only true order is that of the Empire's peace through force. Only the Empire's leaders have the wisdom to guide its citizens. The populace doesn't have the ability to make the right decisions for themselves, so giving them absolute self-governance would be idiotic. For their own protection, they need to be controlled, protected, and safe-guarded both from themselves and a hostile galaxy. If there seem to be incidents and flaws, these are necessary sacrifices or individual failings, not those of the idea. This belief is largely what keeps Corvin running these days.

Indoctrination and Imperial dogma aside, Corvin's starting to finally become aware of just how much blood is on his hands, and how flimsy the excuses for some of its shedding were. He's had trouble forgetting several incidents in particular, and is starting to see reminders of those everywhere in the form of faces, hooded figures, and even silhouettes. This means he's irrationally nervous at times, especially when off-duty, unarmed, or in the presence of hooded sentients. Added to this, he's developed a tell of sorts along the way in the form of uncontrollable finger twitches, something possibly worsened by one too many stun shots to the torso. He's mostly kept these tendency suppressed, but his self-control weakens at times.

In combat or on missions, his whole demeanor shifts wildly. He becomes much more alert and talkative, following and passing on orders with alacrity, and showing the trademark Blackjack disregard for personal safety that's made the squad infamous in some quarters. Though a competent marksman (at least by Army standards..), there's nothing Corvin tend to do so much as charge in, carbine blazing and yell on his lips. He has the scars to prove it. By this point, Corvin has almost as many healing synthskin transplants across his body as natural skin, and it's a rare debriefing that doesn't have him heading to get replacement chestplates or shoulderpads afterward. Judging by his service record, though, he seems to be getting something right, and he's him more or less in one piece, at least for now.

Corvin has a near-pathological hatred for those he sees as enemies of the Empire, especially Vast Imperial defectors or rival factions' stormtroopers. He has a similar complex regarding Mandalorians, and it's all he can do to work with someone he know to have some connection with such a group. This stems from an incident early in his career with a Death Watch squad, made worse by his projection of his disgust over his own crimes onto that faction. Corvin know enough Mando'a to string together basic sentences and recognize it on hearing, but not much else. Coupled with his other tendencies, this obsession has already led to several incidents, on and off duty.

There are few people Corvin truly considers friends. Most of the Blackjack troopers he originally served with have moved on, and he tends to view the new additions as somehow less than true Blackjacks. He has somewhat mixed feelings on the Twi'lek Saphira Striker. On the one hand, the First Sergeant is a damn fine stormtrooper and blademaster. On the other, what Corvin sees as a lack of proper discipline and a sadistic streak strike him the wrong way. (And possibly a bit too close to home, given some of his own tendencies.) Corvin follows Garryll unswaveringly, both because of the senior stormtrooper's role as squad sergeant and the other man's strong belief in the Empire.

"Oh, frak."
―Corvin's response to seeing a group of Mandalorian tanks on Purgia.

Sergeant Corvin Sarn is a stormtrooper serving in the Vast Empire Stormtrooper Corps.

Biography[edit]

Early Life[edit]

Born on the remote agri-world of Verdan II, Corin Sarn jumped at the chance to serve when the Vast Imperial recruiter visited his family's farm. On the remotely populated planet, the only other real career option was to be a droid overseer on a farm. He was all too happy to leave the monotony of farm life behind him for a career as a standard Imperial Army trooper.

Nexu Squad[edit]

Upon arrival at the nearest training facility, Corvin underwent basic Army training with the other potential troopers. However, he would be one of those randomly selected for transfer to the stormtrooper academy to bolster the ranks of the trainees. He completed stormtrooper training and was assigned to Nexu Squad as a replacement for a trooper wounded in action. He would serve with the squad until its near-destruction on a mission against Republic-backed mercenaries.

Blackjack[edit]

Rotated into the Storm Platoon squad after a bar brawl with a fellow trooper, Corvin would participate in the squad's mission to Felucia less than an hour after his arrival.

Felucia[edit]

Less than an hour after returning to Tadath and meeting his new squad, Corvin would join the rest of Blackjack on their mission to Felucia. Despite his initial reservations about the antique nature of the squad's Katarn armour, even going so far as to call it a tin can at one point, he survived with only minor burns and heavily damaged armour.

ESC[edit]

Mission to the Aggrevator (ESC)[edit]

Along with the other Blackjacks, Corvin took a shuttle from the squad barracks to the Dominion upon receiving orders from Army Command. Blackjack Squad beat back the boarders on the Dominion and, along with several squads of Spec Ops and Imperial Marines, took one of the enemy shuttles to inflitrate the Thrawnist Interdictor cruiser Aggrevator. They subsequently disabled the vessel's engines, reactor, and gravity well generators before retreating with the other surviving boarders.

Mission to the Nemesis (ESC)[edit]

Along with the rest of Blackjack, Corvin reequipped and was quickly assigned another objective. They were to board the Imperial Star Destroyer Nemesis and retrieve traitorous Intelligence agent Faith Moraal for interrogation. Supported by two squads of storm commandos and a number of Marine squads, the squad made its way through the ship, making an aborted attack on the bridge and storming the interrogation level in response to a decoy before finally managing to take the ship's command bridge. No command personnel were inside, and the Blackjacks were ambushed. Capturing an officer and interrogating him, the Blackjacks found that Moraal was on the vessel's secondary bridge. They attacked it, and pursued Moraal and the others to a shuttle bay. Moraal was captured, although the majority of the vessel's command staff escaped the Blackjacks. The squad subsequently came under attack from a pair of Noghri, one of which had hunted down and slaughtered most of the Marines. Fleeing with their prisoner, the Blackjacks made their way back to a shuttle bay and returned to the Dominion in triumph.

Recovery[edit]

Aftermath[edit]

Several days after the Second Battle of Tadath, Blackjack would be sent into the capital to restore morale. Wearing their newly awarded elite squad armour, the squad would fight civilian mobs and insurgents. Corvin would come into conflict with his fire-team leader, Jager Luth, over the team's covering-up their executions of a renegade stormtrooper squad, something that would come up again later.

Reedex[edit]

Corvin would participate in the Reedex raid with the rest of the squad, first as a member of Jager's fire team, then as part of the main group as Jager and Abalar went ahead. He duly obeyed when ordered to raze a civilian village, justifying his actions by considering the residents traitors. He survived with minimal injuries, despite the intense cold and nature of the mission. The memories would take longer to fade.

Bando Gora Crisis[edit]

Corvin served with the rest of the squad during the abortive mission to Arkania, fighting alongside Jager and Abalar and the rest of the squad. He sustained light injuries during the battle, almost panicking several times due to the bizarre nature of the squad's enemies. He survived more or less intact, however, and escaped the Bando Gora monastery with the other Blackjacks.

Skills[edit]

Corvin is familiar with basic civilian blasters ,simple repulsorcraft, and basic droid and equipment repair from his upbringing on a farm world. His training at an Imperial Army academy taught him the same skills needed by Army troopers such as the basics of the E-11 rifle and survival training, and he also underwent training at the Tadath Academy. He also picked up the fundamentals of Mando'a and several useful phrases over the course of several missions with Nexu Squad.

Personality[edit]

Raised as a loyal Vast Imperial citizen, Corvin believes whole-heartedly in the Imperial cause. He tends to be rather talkative, and until recently had a habit of repeating orders given to him with a "Yes, sir" added to the end- this caused Nexu Squad to dub him "Echo". Fanatical to a fault, he has little or no tolerance for rebel sympathizers and traitors, and will execute them unless he has a good reason to do so. This unwavering belief carries over to the execution of orders, especially from his immediate superiors; where even fellow stormtroopers might balk, he simply follows them to the best of his ability, any nagging doubts be damned.Corvin has a distinct cynical streak when tired, but keeps it to himself and tries to suppress it. After all, it's not his place to question orders.

After his time with Nexu Squad, he developed a rather extreme and violent reaction to anything that reminds him of Mandalorians- shortly before his transfer, he attacked a fellow trooper in a bar when said trooper started speaking in Mando'a. His self-control has improved since then, but he still can't see them as anything but enemies of the Empire.

Equipment and Weaponry[edit]

  • Red stormtrooper armour
  • EE-3 blaster carbine

Since the events of the Second Battle of Tadath, Corvin has always carried a fusion-cutter when on a mission, due to the numerous blast doors the Blackjacks were forced to bypass or blow open on that mission.
