—Heliwer

Heliwer Garrarth, or more commonly known as just Heliwer, is a 'retired' merc and was once leader of a Pirate gang known as the Rangars who terrorized the enemies of the Hutts who paid them.

He is accurate when he wants to be, but is more apt in the role of drawing enemy fire and laying down suppressive fire. He isn't really into stealth, but doesn't mind going undercover first to a planet, as he is not really that well known around the galaxy. Heliwer is a learn from experience kind of guy, and can be expected to make the same mistakes several times before getting the hang of it. This is most likely due to him being used to being in command of a more lax unit, and getting used to taking orders and more strict rules. He is most likely to take the majority of fire due to his size, and has many scars to prove it. He also has a reputation for carrying on in a fight till the very end, even when he's used up all his energy and when he is bleeding heavily.

Most of his life revolved around the Hutt crimelords, training to be like his dad and make him proud. When he turned 17, he joined a band of pirates and soon became a small strike force that the Hutts could pay to murder business rivals or secure interests.

Heliwer does anything and everything, from the fireing range to sleeping. His main pastime however is bareknuckle boxing followed by weightlifting, and does extreme training regiments to stay in shape and to become as immune to pain as he can get.

Current Status[edit]

Notable Skills[edit]

  • Heliwer likes operating big peices of equipment, the more destructive the better.
  • His fighting style mixes boxing with an old form of fighting called pankration, a mixture of boxing and wrestling with no rules.
  • He loves handling heavy blasters and anti-vehicle weapons.
  • A year ago, he experimented with high explosives. This test made him love things that go boom and cause massive damage.
  • He has no real medic training aside from primitive methods to keep him in the fight.

Languages[edit]

Physical[edit]

Heliwer is a towering block of muscle. His brown hair is often kept short (As is his beard and moustache) so it is out of the way of his eyes. He has scars all over his body, but his most prominent one is over his right eye, down to his cheek. His eyes are ice cold blue, and can give someone the shivers.

Personality[edit]

If you were to insult anything about Heliwer, including friends and his past occupations, prepare to get into a world of hurt. Heliwer is a hot tempered individual who loves brawls, street fights, and bare-knuckle boxing. In his words, "If it doesn't kill you, it'll make you stronger." He also has begun to rebound and become more mature, however he will not hesitate to flirt with attractive women.

Likes and Dislikes[edit]

For an ex-Pirate, he actually has only a few vices: Smoking, gambling, and drinking. He isn't one for dating or hookers, and only ever goes to any red light districts with friends.

As for what he hates, the list is also fairly short. He dislikes the Republic, Geonosians, Hutts, and Geonosians.

Bio[edit]

Heliwer's "friendly" neighborhood.

Early life[edit]

On the day Heliwer was born, his father, Rhyfelwr Garrarth, took his son and promised to make him one of the best hired men out there. Rhyfelwr had already been working for the Hutts for 30 years, and even though he was still deadly at 58, he needed an heir to the job. He could see in Heliwer his determination and strength, and eyes that could freeze a sun.

Heliwer's dad, the famous Rhyfelwer.

When Heliwer was 7, Rhyfelwr taught the young boy how to shoot and how to fight. By the time he was 12, he could defend himself pretty well for a teenager. A local gang appealed to him, and invited him to join in the fun. Heliwer came home with many a black eye, cut, scratch, bruise, and broken bone. His father was proud.

At 17 years of age, he and some friends had an idea:

We were just sitting around one day when I suddenly had a thought, which I shared with my friends: “Hey, wanna make our own band of pirates? It’ll be fun!“ Little did I know of the massive piles of poodoo we’d get into. It seemed like a good idea at the time. My dad was getting on in years and would soon leave us, and someone then had to carry on the job. It was a family tradition, all the way back to my great-great-great-great-great grandfather. He promised the Hutts eternal servitude, and he delivered. I honestly thought that we‘d do good as a crew.

He and twenty other juvenile delinquents got weapons from Rhyfelwr and Heliwer received his father’s ship as a present for his late birthday: Zvena, a IPV-1 System Patrol Craft. Almost immediately, the gang trained to operate the ship, and within a year, managed to become adept at flying the ship. Heliwer called the group, the Rangar Pirates.

Pirate Life[edit]

Eventually, they managed to get their pirate gig going for them. Hutts called on them, paying them thousands of credits to destroy an odd ship, kill an odd competitor, anything they needed doing, the Rangars did. At one point in time, it was almost worth to call them at par with the Black Sun.

The specifics of the missions they undertook included intimidation, kidnapping, assassinating, murdering, and racketeering. Towards the end of their career, they probably had almost 5 million credits, killed a thousand people, destroyed hundreds of ships and buildings, and were wanted on several planets for their crimes.

Who cared if we killed some innocents on the job? It was a fun job that paid well. We probably served ten different Hutts before we dissolved, which is quite a number of you ask me.

The Last Mission[edit]

Owabungah the Hutt is a small alien with big ambitions. He ran a big protection ring that increased his power and wealth daily. However, a small asteroid field home to a few sparse settlements refused his services. They were close to a New Republic planet and expected to be assisted by them. Owabungah was not amused.

Recieving his last job.
One day, I get a transmission from this Hutt called Owabungah. He tells me to meet him on Ryloth. We get there, and he gives me this offer: To cause panic in this system of asteroid colonies and make them want his protection. The guy hands me a list and says that if I get this right, he’ll pay me 4 million credits. Now how can I refuse that?

The list contained Owabungah’s proposed plan, separated into three phases. Phase One was a standard piracy mission. Attack any and all supply ships entering the asteroid field, and utterly destroy Republic ships. Any data, information, tech, or wealth gathered from this was allowed to be kept by the Rangars. Within a week, shipping lanes grinded to a halt, and a few ships scurried back and forth.

It was during these raids that Helena was united with Heliwer.

We raided this Mandelorean looking cargo vessel and we’re about to take off when I spot this lovely girl hiding away in the corner. She was tan looking with blue eyes. She was quite shorter than me and had wonderful blonde hair that rested beautifully on her shoulders. I was smitten with her. Without delay, I brought her on board the ship. I learned that her name was Helena through attempting to talk with her. It was maybe a week or two before she let me in and we talked and talked. Apparently she wanted a nice fight, and was in the department for a beau. What guy would refuse such a beautiful woman? She and I had a great relationship, and she was quite tough in battle. Well, course she was. She was Mandelorean and my gal.

Phase Two called for raids on the settlements in disguise as Republic soldiers. The true cruelty of the pirates was shown as they mercilessly slaughtered colony after colony. One colony, Abraxi, had about 3,000 people living in the rock. After the Rangar raided the colony, only 20 survived.

The last phase is etched into Heliwer’s mind forever:

I get told that we have to break out these informants before they squeal. They’re holed up in a Republic Prison Complex a little ways away from the main system of colonies. We gather up uniforms and go on with the mission, no matter how suicidal it gets. Helena and I had made a promise a few minutes before we landed that we’d marry after this last job. I couldn’t wait. We land with a little bump and out we go, disguised as Republic soldiers escorting Pirate Markadian (Enriko, my Lieutenant) to the prison. We get in ok, don’t get spotted, and we free the two informants before the alarm goes off. Someone had to have tipped them off. It was hellish fighting before we got to the landing pad. Me and Jaina decide to hold off the enemy while everyone else gets on the transport. After the last guy goes in, we turn to go. At that point, a sniper knocks me over with a shot to my shoulder. I get up on my feet and helped by Enriko as Jaina covers us. We get to the ship and I call “Come on sweets patogga! We’re getting married tomorrow!” She turns around and smiles. That’s when…… when the sniper shot her in her chest……… I screamed her name loudly as a man about my size in Republic uniform walks up behind her. She had slumped to her knees and was staring into my eyes when I heard the dreadful sound of a blaster going off…………….. She died, on the platform execution style in front of my very eyes..... and I was powerless to help the love of my life.......…. I can’t get her out of my head, not now, not ever....... I then decided that from then on, I would never let anyone female get that close to me…….
Heliwer today, when he hasn't had a fight.

Heliwer blamed Owabungah for Jaina’s death, and the very next day, ended being a pirate. A year later, he found the man who killed her: Colonel Darash Thraak, or by the time he re-found him, ex-Colonel Darash Thraak. Heliwer was so close to revenge when Thraak used the same pistol he used to kill Jaina to shoot Heliwer across his eye, leaving a big scar on his right side of his face. This was enough to let him get away, and force Heliwer to rethink his strategy, which is why he joined the Vast Empire.

Personality[edit]

As he was once a merc, he takes everything in his stride. He'll drop in some Huttese into conversation from time to time, and might even use it to say some nasty stuff about someone or 'negotiate' with a Hutt. He has grown more accustomed to military life now and has a short temper when it comes to working in groups. However, he is a good weapon to keep by your side in a fight, tough as a bull, and not as dumb. It takes a while for people to warm up to him and longer for him to warm up to them, unless they impress him somehow.

Service History[edit]

After 6 months on Thyveck.

During the Thyveck Campaign, Heliwer expected a large fight, but not one as big as he got. He received a few close calls of his own and had some near death experiences. His time on Thyveck helped him control his memory of Jaina and made him not as effected as before. He has gotten to the point of fashioning together Improvised Explosive Devices instead of regular thermal detonators due to the ammo and equipment shortages.

Before going to Thyveck, Heliwer had a month leave to take care of some unfinished business, that being reuniting with his old pirate buddies. The reunion was long over due, and both Heliwer and his crew knew that a months leave meant that there were gonna be some serious fighting going on.

It was on Thyveck that he met Cayla, a prisoner of the Republic that was freed by Joamer when he heard her screaming. Heliwer felt mesmerized by this newcomer, and started questioning his feelings towards women. He has so far shown Cayla the most compassion, with Brightstar being as only a squad mate and Havock as a senior officer. Cayla left the squad, and an old vet rejoined and became the assistant squad leader when Brightstar was transferred to another squad. Jaenna had hardcore written all over her, and Heliwer was cautious around her. More recently, however, the two have struck up a fairly friendly bond.

During the campaign, Heliwer advanced up to Lance Corporal, and at the end to Sergeant of the RAIDERS. He also was awarded the title of Protecter of Thyveck

After the escapade, the whole of Phoenix Platoon went to an abandoned space station where they fought off weird wolfmen-like creatures, culminating in the Among the Ruins Halloween storyline. Heliwer took some time off to locate his brother, Nathaniel, before the next big campaign: the HSC.

Anteevy was cold and hard, and resulted in him loosing an arm and an ear (more or less) that were replaced afterwards with cybernetic attachments. During the HSC, a new recruit practically landed in the RAIDERS laps: Xylonia Rose. She and the big trooper have and continue to flirt with one another playfully. At the end of the campaign, he received the Emperor's Will First Class, the Emerald Ring of Anteevy, and promoted to senior sergeant.

Since then, things have been up and down for the sergeant. After the Vast Empire was defeated, he spent his time in mercenary circles using his training and pension for destruction to earn a decent living. He returned to the Vast Empire the first time it attempted revival, but it wasn't to last. The effort had failed, and he went back to doing what he did best, this time for the remnants of the Vast Empire. Recently however, he has been contacted by one group, one that his comrades have been assembled into. Third time's the charm as they say.

Relationships with his Squaddies[edit]

Mox[edit]

Like Joamer, Heliwer is quite suspicious of Mox, and will at any given moment in time threaten to "Shove his jetpack so far up his ass that he's crapping rocket fuel".

Joamer[edit]

He still retains a fairly strained camaraderie with the Squad Leader, working to get on his good side.

Jaenna[edit]

From the first time they saw one another, Heliwer was cautious around her. Now the two are more or less friends in the Squad.

Grahim[edit]

Heliwer has never seen a Gungan before, and for the mean time is attempting to avoid Grahim, as to him, Gungans are almost as nasty as Geonosians.

Havock[edit]

These two have had a few fights since he joined RAIDERS, and are probably bound to continue unless they reach some sort of compromise.

Xylonia Rose[edit]

Since first meeting each other, the two have actively flirted with one another, very playfully.

Coadster[edit]

Another person Heliwer can call friend, more or less.

Dusk[edit]

Someone who he considers a friend.
