Appearance

Jay isn't a super-hero by any means, but he's broad-shouldered and has sort of a laid-back manner. Walks like he doesn't really care. Good looking, guy, though- ladies really like him. He's not in the best shape, but he can handle himself in a fight. Used to practice various fighting styles as a kid, so he's got good use of his legs and arms, and knows how to defend himself. No kick-boxer, though. More than anything- he's just more than a person would expect. Stronger, faster, more maneuverable. That element of surprise is what probably gets him the win.

Personality

Loving guy- loves people, hates war. In general, he despises unnecessary conflict. He also doesn't like the idea of empires- he doesn't believe in tyranny and oppression. The means by which he arrives in the imperial navy is almost entirely an act of fate. Doesn't laugh as much as he used to, but- still cracks a joke here and there. He wonders about his own ability to be the good guy when everyone else seems to give in to doing the bad thing. Again, part of how he ended up in something he despises. But, he figures he'll make the best of it, and try to make it better from within. Otherwise- kind of quiet and doesn't really have a lot of friends.

History

Jay is, for lack of a better term, a failure. He always dreamed of going to school and becoming a successful doctor, but before he reached the age to choose a school, he discovered that the establishment of medicine he had come to believe in was a sham. Intentionally or not, he began to discover that there were other forms of medicine out there- those taken from the natural world, without meddling. He heard things about incurable diseases being ridded with ease; he made him doubt. He tried to go to school for some of his other interests (programming, etc), but found them to be unsatisfying. His interest grew in natural medicine. Finally, he left school, and pursues a series of jobs. He wanted to pay off his debts to society with work, but each job he found himself in, he was further from his goal to learn about medicine, and the jobs were usually barbaric. His perfectionism led him to the point of desperation- no home, no money... The Imperial Navy was recruiting though, and in his desperation, fearing he would never amount to anything, enlisted with the Navy. He knew he was a self-contradiction, having railed against the Empire for years (as it was the puppet dictator of his planet), but he also knew that he needed money, and he needed connections. Hopefully, he prayed, it wouldn't mean that he would be pulling the trigger on an innocent man's life. In fact- he wouldn't, even if ordered to, or if it meant his own life. His decision to enter the Navy is almost an act of faith- as if, somewhere down the line, it will make sense to him. He is, however, very conflicted about his entire role in the Navy and where he's going with the Imperials.
