Biography[edit]

Appearance[edit]

Tall, dark haired, and young in appearance. Fair to tanned skin.

Personality[edit]

Prior to the invasion of his home planet, Rafe was an outgoing, fun-loving sportsman who loved flying. Since his escape, though, he has been withdrawn at times and has had difficulty making fast friends. He's conscientious and thinks good is out there, but is shaken by his personal experiences. Once warmed up, he can be friendly and generous in his humor.

History[edit]

Rafe's father, who was an Agaji fruit farmer, died shortly after his birth. His mother, a local distributor for produce (and an herbology enthusiast at heart) raised Rafe and his siblings (two brothers and one sister). Rafe was influenced by his father's brother Darl, though, who was a starship mechanic in the nearby metropolis Malpar. Also a pilot, Darl taught Rafe the basic elements of flight and helped him get his beginner's pilot license. Piloting was a hobby, and then an occupation during his secondary school years. Rafe was amazed by the vastness of the universe and sat in as a co-pilot on small transport ships (with the help of his uncle). He was excited to become an intergalactic traveler, hoping to maybe start his own flight company, but his plans were cut short...

Naví had fought only a few wars in the last milenia, but planet Yega VI in the neighboring system had been a source of tension for hundreds of years. It was believed that a variety of cruisers and passenger vehicles (some, very large transports) had gone missing at the hands of Yega hostiles. Occupied by a growing population of humanoid species, it was a place widely considered unsafe for travel or approach. Those who had come back from Yega VI, it was said, had a variety of horror stories: wars, painted nightmare humanoid tribes, vast and fierce technology. Visibility of Yega VI was almost zero, though, as a result of massive magnetic disturbances crossing the plane seperating Yega and Naví in space.

Consequently, the attack that occurred in the summer following Rafe's graduation was entirely a surprise. Swiftly, and terribly, Yega raiders descended from the heavens of Naví. "Ila Horse" attack ships annihilated the planetary defense force and burned the capitals. Secondary landing forces captured citizens to send them to slavery on Yega II and Yega (controlled mining operations of Yega VI). Rafe was grounded during the failed planetary defense strategy and so survived the initial aerial knockout. Seperated from his family, Rafe escaped to Malpar. Finding his uncle dead in his company's ship bay, Rafe took the flight codes to his fastest, hyperdrive equipped shuttle. Rafe watched the patrol patterns overhead so that he could launch with the most space between him and his pursuers, and then launched at full speed from the bay (a force strong enough to subsequently destroy it). Flying almost vertically, Rafe escaped Naví atmosphere with Yega turbolasers lancing past him. Upon clearing the atmosphere, Rafe hit the hyperdrive and disappeared.

Arriving in Vectra System, the closest metropolitan system, Rafe sold his shuttle to pay for lodging while he looked for work. Rafe was not the only citizen of Naví to escape; it was through other rumors that he heard of the mass enslavement. Naví was a free planet; it wasn't owned or protected by any alliance or federation. Proud of it's independence, it operated without interference from the Empire or the New Republic for nearly a milenia. This independence, though, also meant that no one had come to the rescue after stories of Yega's attack circulated. Rafe kept his origins to himself as he looked for work; he found it incredibly difficult to find work in the starcruiser industry, though, since he had no references and no local connections. The Navy of the Vast Empire, the intersystem Imperial faction, was willing to hire despite this. Moreover, Rafe was moved by his recruitment officer, who astutely determined Rafe's homeplanet and then expressed his sorrow for his loss. In need of work, and happy with his recruiter, Rafe was ready to sign on with the VE. At first, Rafe hoped to join the starfighter corp, but being chased and almost obliterated by pursuing fighters and invader ships had turned him cold to it. Also, his life was spared by the fact that he hadn't been in a starfighter on the evening of the invasion: the planetary defense force of Naví was cut to pieces, and so were many of Rafe's classmates and mates from his pilot clubs... He wasn't sure he was scared to fly- but the fresh memory of what happened on Naví gave him chills. Rafe joined the Officer Corp of the Vast Empire Navy. He is now in pursuit of his accreditation.
