Brief[edit]
The Suspense is a MkII Imperial-class Star Destroyer, belonging to the Vast Empire. Currently commanded by Commander Shodon, the Suspense is part of the Vast Empire's 1st fleet, and is one of the more commonly seen ship of the line.
Service History[edit]
Pre-Vast Empire[edit]
The Suspense was commissioned in the same year as the Battle of Yavin took place. It was to be constructed along with the first batch of the newly designed Imperial II-class Star Destroyers. However, being one of the last ships constructed in that batch, the Suspense didn't make it's first appearance until a year later in the Battle of Shumariin 1 ABY, during Darth Vader's infamous 'Jedi Purge'. Upon construction, the Suspense had been given to Captain Kane, an up-and-coming officer of the Imperial Navy. Kane would serve as the ship's Captain for the next few years.
In the years after that battler, the Suspense was transferred to one of the home fleets, and served as part of several planets garrison fleet. It was eventually reassigned to the Executor fleet, where the Suspense participated in the Battle of Hoth.
From there, the Suspense was transferred to the fleet guarding the Second Death Star, which was still under construction. Whilst it participated in the Battle of Endorin 4 ABY, it was not captured by Rebel Forces, however the ship was heavily damaged, and Captain Kane was killed.
Bran Shodon was the ships Executive Officer, who joined the Suspense shortly after the Battle of Hoth. With Captain Kane dead, he automatically assumed command of the Suspense, and has commanded it ever since.
The Suspense drops off the radar for the next few years, however it was reported to have been sighted at the Kuat Drive yards from which is was constructed a few months after Endor, probably going in for repairs. Several other reported sightings were made, but the Suspense doesn't officially turn up again until 7 ABY, at the Battle of Tantive V. Again, despite being damaged and defeated by New Republic forces, the Suspense manages to evade capture once again.
The ship then dissapeared for another year, before finally turning up in VE space in the year 8 ABY, officially defecting.
Vast Empire[edit]
Upon joining the Vast Empire Navy, the Suspense was initially stationed at Abrea, as part of the local defensive fleet. However, the main reason for this was only so that the ship and it's crew could be checked over by VE security. As a sign of good faith, the High Council also agreed for the Suspense to be given a thorough work over, to make sure it was fit for action.
Initial security checks complete, the Suspense was placed on the front lines. Naval Commander-in-Chief Japheth presented Shodon with an ultimatum: Prove yourself, or else. The Suspense spent the next year as part of the Frontier groups, patrolling the VE boarders, defending forward outpost, and guarding against enemy incursions.
It wasn't until the Third Outer Rim War broke out in early 9 ABY that the Suspense and her crew really proved themselves in the eyes of Fleet Command. Instrumental in the first battle for the Teyeong System in the early stages of the war, the Suspense fought valiantly at each turn, never flinching from the enemy. As the tide of the war began to turn against the Vast Empire and it's allies, a small fleet of ships under the unofficial command of Commander Shodon oversaw the evacuation process as the Vast Empire was slowly driven from the sector. The Suspense played a crucial role at the second battle for Teyeong, saving thousands of lives as the Imperials lost control of the system.
By the last stages of the conflict, Commander Shodon and his crew had been fighting for 6 weeks straight. The Suspense had suffered a lot of accumulated damage, and moral was low. Despite this, in the battle for Derxes, or the "Derxes Rout" as it would be later known as, the Suspense was the last ship to leave, covering the defeated Imperial forces as they fled the sector.
Commander Shodon was awarded several medals for his participation in the conflict, which included the Legion of Combat medal for his role in the first and second battle for Teyeong, and the Merit Cross for his action's at Derxes.
After a well deserved month of rest, and after repairs to the Suspense had been completed, Commander Shodon was assigned to the illustrious 1st Fleet, under the direct command of Fleet Admiral Japheth and his flagship Atrus.
Since then, the Suspense has participated in several key navy missions, and has become the unofficial flagship of the renowned Viper Squadron. This is because the two entities have been paired together alot since the squadron's reopening.
