The Osk Company

Known Commanders

History[edit]

Compiling astrogation logs...

Little is known about the origins of the Zephyr beyond the fact that it was a private vessel of a Paladin officer involved in the brutal invasion of Osk 91. Used in the assault against the planet, it was subsequently stored within The Locker during the relatively stable period in which the Paladins ruled over those pirates lucky - or traitorous - enough to remain alive following the purges undertaken by the sect in an attempt to ‘purify’ the privateer homeworld and its inhabitants.

It was only once the Osk Company had retaken the planet that the Zephyr fell into the hands of the mad Pirate King, Sniping101, who in turn offered the ship as a gift to his second in command Kami Sharpe. It is believed that the majority of the modifications to the vessel were made prior to becoming the property of the Osk Company though there are no records, official or unofficial stating otherwise.

Modifications[edit]

  • Stock Ghtroc 720 Class Freighter Deckplan and Design Notes
  • The most significant modification to the ship is its lower density hull. The Zephyr is a high-risk, high-reward ship in this way; it trades off less armor for more speed. A true "Light" freighter in every sense of the word, the Zephyr can reach atmospheric speeds of up to 1,100 km/h (versus the standard 750) and sub-light speeds of 100 MGLT (nearly double the stock speed) thanks to its light frame and various other improvements, making it the fastest freighter in The Osk's raggedy-ass fleet. It is second only to the Corellian Hound in hyperspeed and Queen Tetras Revenge in sub-light.
  • The Zephyr is also the weakest ship in The Osk's raggedy-ass fleet. The low-density hull drops the armor rating by a third, making for an easy target should pirate haters catch it with its pants and shields down. This limits the Zephyr to scouting and sting operations only.
  • However, the hull also provides a greater heat-damping chassis for electrical and energy systems, allowing for many upgrades. In addition to the lighter overall weight, the speedy Z has an upgraded hyperdrive core, clocking in at Class 1.0 (with a backup Class 10). Given the weaker hull, Z is the recipient of a greater Shield module, almost doubling the stock output. Lastly, getting in and out without getting shot at is crucial to Zephyr's survival, and as such it is equipped with a 360 degree twin-ion cannon on its belly.

Kami Sharpe[edit]

Captain

A ‘ground pounder’ by nature, Kami was thrown when Snipes offered her the gift of the Zephyr following the retaking of Osk 91 from the hands of the religiously motivated Paladin sect. Noting the modified capabilities of the ship immediately, she irrevocably fell in love with its battered character and set about cleansing the Zephyr of its origins and once again making it space worthy.

Kami, Zephyr's owner and Osk member

It was only once she had a fully functioning vessel on her hands that she realized the extent to which she would have to invest her time and energy in order to keep the Zephyr in the sky. Torn between her responsibilities on Osk 91 and her newfound attraction to the freedom of a true privateer’s life she contacted her old friend, and accomplished ‘flyboy’ Decembrist.

Never the best pilot, Kami is quite willing to let Dec use the 'Z’ as his own private vessel unless she, or Osk Company, has some need of the light freighter from time to time. Despite the fact that she spends the majority of her time in The Locker she maintains a quasi-permanent residence on board the Zephyr, and frequently takes long periods of absence in which she joins her crew on their spontaneous forays. During these ventures she’ll often fill the role of co-pilot, or gunner, a skill in which she is gaining proficiency at a rapid rate. Since becoming a Captain she has also taken an interest in the mechanics of the ship, and spends hours closeted with Dec and Ydj learning about every process of the freighter, no matter how insignificant. She has also expressed interest on several occasions in funding continued modifications to the 'Z.'

Vasili "Decembrist" Rustam[edit]

Pilot, First Mate
Vasili, Zephyr's pilot

Loading Osk Personnel logs...

Acquired from high security prison on asteroid CM-220, rerouted from reactivation in Army.

"Dec" was originally trained by the Vast Empire Navy and flew a TIE Interceptor on several missions before being court martialed (disorderly conduct and insubordination) and being imprisoned on Lopen. His service in the Army is a testament to the incredible luck the man possesses: he's never been injured in the line of duty, barely even scratched. Ever. Furthermore, Rustam has a rapport with Captain Sharpe from their time in Jester Squad. For these reasons - his starship training, behavior, combat experience, apparent invincibility, and prior history with Sharpe - he was the top candidate for the Zephyr's pilot.

Official duties include:

  • Piloting the Z
  • Overseeing the ship's maintenance and crew activities when Capt. Sharpe is ashore
  • Aiding in ship repairs with Ydj, and
  • Acting as Pointman when in a shore party.

Deznim[edit]

Navigator and Quartermaster, Temporary Co-Pilot

Deznim, Zephyr's navigator

As a member of the rare and nomadic Ryn species, Deznim has never considered any specific planet to be his homeworld. His earliest memory was that of a cargo ship’s holding bay and as such, he has always felt most comfortable within the relatively confining quarters of starships, cruisers and freighters.

Leaving his mother as soon as he was able, Deznim scrounged work where possible and managed to prevent himself from starving until his teenage years in which he decided to venture further out into the galaxy in search of riches. After a few unsuccessful attempts at smuggling he turned to pirating to make his coin, quickly discovering that his capacity for quick thinking was a welcome talent amongst his new, intellectually challenged comrades.

When the rumors of the newly created Osk Company splashed onto the pirating circuit Deznim was immediately intrigued, and after embezzling an appropriate amount of credits from his colleagues he abandoned then to travel to Osk 91. Immediately assigned to the Corellian Hound, Deznim participated in the first of the Osk Company raids during which he crossed paths with Kami Sharpe. The two politically minded individuals established an immediate rapport and since then, Deznim has rarely been seen beyond Kami’s side.

Deznim is a highly sarcastic, highly intelligent individual capable of talking himself out of the corners he commonly finds himself stuck in due to his doggedly curious nature. He questions everything and anything in his quest for knowledge, yet often neatly sums up issues and aspects of society he doesn't understand by citing fate's involvement. When on board the Zephyr he enjoys filling the role of navigator and has recently become slightly obsessed with studying far reaching and detailed space charts in order to broaden his understanding of the galaxy.

Ydj[edit]

Engine/Weapons/Communications Technician
Ydj, Zephyr's technician

Born and raised in the Roche Cluster, the native homelands of his species, Ydj is one of the technoligically apt Verpine. The people is famous for owning and operating the Slayn & Korpil Starship Manufacturing company, which contributed the B-Wing Fighter (and others) to the galaxy.

Ydj was, as most Verpine are, genetically engineered to be born into the intelligent caste. His hive cultivated him not into the traditional engineer, but rather a defense specialist for their starship manufacturing base. As such, he received military training as well as the natural affinity for technology.

The starship manufacturer that Ydj worked at was developing a revolutionary artificial intelligence when he was expelled from his hive. He was involved in a scandal that saw the AI system, designed to replace droids in starfighters, implemented into the Heavy Battledroids that protected the station. The droids went berserk and the facility had to be destroyed to contain them. Whether this breach of defense protocal was intentional or unintentional, or even if Ydj was responsible, the verdict from the hive consensus was that he would be expelled as the incident was traced back to his department.

Ask Ydj about the incident now and he will confess to the whole ordeal. He is hypererratic and eccentric, inheriting his specie's pension for tinkering. Often he verbalizes his thought process as he works and converses. His friendly, quick-talking manner kept him working from ship to ship until he ended up on Osk 91, where he let slip that he reprogrammed the droids from his home.

The verbal slip quickly started a rumor that he was a hyper-intelligent psychopath, which isn't far from the truth. Ydj has a moral character best described as consequentialistic, believing the ends justify the means. His actions are often guided by an impersonal logic, refusing to let his conscience and personal and emotional connections cloud his judgment of what he believes is truly best in the big picture, a product of hive mentality. On a planet of miscreants, castaways and cutouts, this kept him employed for a very long time. Eventually, Ydj yearned for the Hyperlanes once more.

Word was already out about the insane bug hanging around Eyesore when Vasili Rustam arrived. Interested in hiring a mechanic, V sought out Ydj and immediately appreciated his demeanor - insanity loves company. He isn't the best mechanic out there, specializing more in electrical systems and combat, but his natural affinity for starship engineering makes him better than most.

Ydj's Sniper

Multiple angles with the outline of the pistol

When a shore party is formed, Ydj is sometimes called upon to provide long-range support, utilizing a rare Verpine Shatter Rifle. Unlike most of its kind, Ydj, in his tinkering lunacy, modified this rifle to function as a pistol that comes with an attachable barrel extension, stock, and scope.

The weapon functions differently in its two variations like the normal, individual counterparts: the pistol can electro-magnetically project 8, automatic slugs before requiring a reload, the rifle is semi-automatic.

Bloodhound[edit]

Gunman/Problem Solver

Day Off by ChateNoire.jpg
A vagrant gunman with a penchant for violence. Originally acquired during the same expedition to free V. The errant gunman and sometimes pupil of The Pirate King found himself seeking shelter under the arm of Kami Sharpe in order to avoid further confrontations with Sniping101.

He acts as the muscle of the group; not particularly intellegent but possessing street smarts and a quick hand with any weapon that meets his fingers he is sometimes disregarded by the rest of the crew for his lower intelligence and his youth. He is still valuable at evening the odds in the occasional firefights the crew of the Z find themselves in. Unproven and untrustworthy, he is always treated like a wild dog that might turn on it's master at any moment.

Moelik Hond's status as a notorious criminal in certain systems also means that the ship must either step more carefully on those systems or leave him on board to vent his frustrations on all the delicate equipment housed in it.

A half chiss heritage means that his eyes glow red, a distinctive feature that is only hidden by a set of custom sunglasses. He does not like to take them off, but at times the mere intimidation factor of it forces his captain to make him. His only real duty on the ship is just that, to be mean, intimidating and deadly. In that role he excels, being fast with his gun and accurate shooting from the hip like none other. Because of this he usually plays rear guard, especially when the crew are running from something.
