Squad Trooper Character development

An idea shamelessly plundered from Raiders. (Because lets face it... it's really good.) Character Development is edited weekly/biweekly (in theory) by each member of the squad so that they can keep track of their characters feelings, emotions, and state of mind easily. It also helps to keep other squad members informed of their squad mate's behaviors.

(ESL) PSGT Garryll Gates

Overkill's the only kill.

—Blackjack Motto, Attributed to ASL Garryll GAtes

  • Cocky, reckless, gung-ho, and very nearly batshit crazy.
  • In the wake of the Thrawnist invasion, he's taken his usual patriotic zeal and become a fanatic.
  • As such, he's even less prone to show mercy or quarter, and his reckless streak has just gotten worse with the times.
  • New first officer of Blackjack; proud to be in the place he's in, and damned if he'll screw it up.
  • Determined to play it by-the-book and sure of himself in his new role.
  • Extremely proud of Blackjack for the pivotal role played in the defense of Tadath.

(EASL) SGT Abalar

  • Hates her last name, due to her childhood. Don't call her "Stone" unless you attach her rank in front of it. Otherwise, just remember she is the squad medic.
  • Abalar has a lot of respect for Jager, mainly due to their shared history in Jester. If anything, she looks up to him, combat wise. She does not want to be anything like him personality wise.
  • It can't be said that Abalar is hard to anger, because there are many little things that can easily put her over the edge. However, on the whole, she is more challenging to provoke an aggressive response from.
  • Once angered, Abalar is almost impossible to stop. She gets this trait from her father, and even though Abalar doesn't like it, her uncontrollable anger is a part of her. Abalar feels horrible after, and will beat herself up for days after.
  • She doesn't like to drink, and the only time she does is when she is bought one, or when she needs to forget. Even when she has been bought one, she'll only take a couple sips. When drunk, Abalar is easily aggravated, so see point four for further explanation.
  • Abalar takes her job as a medic very seriously, almost more so than her job as a trooper. This is due to her more empathetic and humanitarian views.
  • As a fighting style, Abalar prefers to fight one on one, with close combat weapons such as vibroswords or unhanded. She owns throwing knives, and always has them on her person, even though she rarely uses them.
  • On the whole, Abalar feels a general camaraderie with her fellow troopers. However, she hates those that only show their good qualities, and try to come across as good people. She knows that no one is good, and knows when people are faking. Also, she hates it when people get in her way in the field. This can be anything from when she is performing her medic duties, to when she is lining up a shot.

(ETRP) CPL Corvin Sarn

What the hell were you thinking?

—Tanus to Corvin during the mission to Reedex.

With a zeal bordering on the religious, Corvin Sarn is a firm believer in the rightness of the New Order as outlined by the VE High Command and a stickler for the regulations. Almost a stereotypical stormtrooper, Corvin will follow almost any order and is generally respectful towards most superiors, the afore-mentioned Jager Luth being a notable exception. His tendency to talk nonstop and to put "sir" at the end of every sentence when talking to a superior, have earned him several nicknames, among which are "echo", "blabbermouth" and "that idiot who won't shut the frak up".

Corvin is, to put it bluntly, a bit of an idiot. For most of his career, he had a bit of a blind spot where tactics such as "take cover and hide" are concerned, and was prone to charging into the line of fire. Despite his near-constant attempts to heroically give his life for the Corps and the Empire, he somehow managed to escape each suicidal charge with little worse than moderate flash burns and severely scorched armour.

Much to the relief of the other Blackjacks, this last trait seems to be decreasing in frequency, not least because Corvin has started to realize that it might just be bad for his long term health and the success of the mission. After a disasterous incident during the assault on Arkania, in which a rash charge nearly led to the destruction of two entire squads of Army troopers, Corvin became much less suicidally aggressive. This still doesn't stop his zeal from overriding his common sense on occasion, however, much to the dismay of his squadmates.

He has an odd habit of dropping his gun at inopportune times, such as in the middle of a firefight on an Imperial Star Destroyer, and subsequently being forced to loot the nearest body for a replacement. (Usually an E-11)

He also as a little thing about Mandalorians due to a previous squad assignment, something that can result in unwanted skull-bashing and firefights at the worst possible moments.

Although he's used a decent variety of weapons in his brief career, he prefers to use either the standard issue EE-3 or a Arbites blaster shotgun when more stopping power is needed. He hates carting the J-8 or other such heavy weapons around, due to his abyssal accuracy with the weapons.

If he's lucky, he'll live long enough to learn when to stay quiet and keep his head down.

(ETRP) PSC Specter

Ryan "Specter" Korr always exudeds a calm, self-assured air. He is very passionate in all that he engages himself in. He is very proud that he survived as well as he did under all the difficult circumstances that he was in during his hard life. The smiles and laughs he makes could be described as grim, mirthless, crooked, bleak, sinister, or even almost mad. Because of his unpleasant upbringing, the constant sense of danger, and multiple attempts on his life, Spectre has become solitary, suspicious, and practical.

He is always wary of everyone, from strangers to his closest friends, and his suspicion makes him dislike taking chances, especially for the sake of others. He would not hesitate to defend himself or whatever he held dear, no matter the cost to others. He is practical to the point of ruthlessness in this regard, killing anyone he deems a threat with minimal hesitation or remorse, and an attitude that is almost casual.

Specter is also very intelligent and strong-willed. Because almost everything in his life has been stolen from him he regards what he has as his sacred property. Perhaps because of his indomitable will, Specter is also quite stubborn on occasion. Whenever he makes a decision, nothing can change his mind.

Another aspect of Specter is that because of his early upbringing, he can be very polite and well mannered at times. And usually is whenever he is not among the underworld. He is also somewhat introverted and egocentric. His own life he values above all others.

Morals: Because Ryan considers himself to be more important than others, he often disregards the feelings and suffering of others for his own sake. However, Despite his ruthlessness, and his love of power, Ryan is not sadistic or parasitic at all. He shies away from acts of excessive bloodshed and cruelty.

His life as a mercenary made him a hard man, but he had no sense of purpose. Ryan signed up with the Vast Empire's Army. Hoping to find some meaning in his life.

  • Ryan's attitude towards the members of the squad can be described as half apathetic, half amused.
  • He enjoys the banter between the squad members, but rarely takes part in it
  • He does not openly dislike any members of the squad, but sees Jager as someone of his own breed, and therefore watches the man with caution.
  • Ryan finds Corvin amusing to be around, if a little annoying at times.
  • He respects Loran for his morals, despite not sharing them. Gates is also greatly respected by him.
  • His attitude towards his ASL can be somewhat aloof.

Ryan's shady and mysterious past is something he keeps well hidden. But despite his best efforts it is now slowly leaking out.

(ETRP) GSGT Orobos

  • Orobos is comfortable in combat, whether it be close quarters with his now trademark vibro-axe or at range with a variety of weapons ranging from carbines and rifles to heavy machine guns and rocket launchers.
  • Having recently returned to active duty with Blackjack, Orobos has been met with some old and new faces. Finding some of the new recruits discomforting he is finding out what to make of them on his first mission with the new squad in a month.
  • Orobos holds no strict sense of duty to the Corps as others of his rank generally do but to the squad and it’s members. They make up the Corps and the squad.
  • Seeing himself as a keeper to the squad, Orobos sees himself protecting both veteran and green members of Blackjack
  • Though his manner may come across as friendly on or off a mission Orobos will not hestiate to do what neeeds to be done. His methods may seem brutal to some but to most who have expierianced battle will know it as only the natural way to go about defeating an enemy.

(ETRP) SGT Jori

  • Batshit crazy
  • Borderline psychotic, somehow managed to retain some sort of extraordinary intelligence that manifests itself in a variety of ways
  • Mind is fractured, but not broken which is probably why he has kept his intelligence
  • No qualms about killing and no morals or ethics to hold him back
  • Cold and calculating, feels no remorse nor regrets and rarely feels any sort of emotion, leading him to easily make decisions that others find quite hard
  • Despite his nature, it is actually quite hard to anger him, but if you do, God help you
  • Often stating that he doesn’t feel fear, it is quite apparent that if he does actually feel fear, he keeps it hidden deep
  • Has been found rushing into situations that were deemed far worse than suicidal seemingly without a second thought, while actually having a plan with at least two backup plans already thought out.

Squad Trooper Character development (former members)

(ETRP) PFC Loran Aramis Mustang21

Loran was once a citizen of the Imperial Remnant. He was sickened by their tyrannical ways and anti-alien bias. He left the Remnant, ending up in the Vast Empire. He enlisted in the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps.

It is not know to anyone that he was a Remnant citizen. However, Lorans loyalty to the VE is whole and absolute. He hates the Remnant and will fight against it valiantly.

Loran left behind a wife and daughter. He did not abandon them. It was not safe for them to go with him and he vowed to get them out of the Remnant as soon as he could.

This separation has left a large emptiness in Lorans heart and he often loses himself in memories of his wife and daughter. Sometimes this happens in the thick of combat and effects his fighting ability.

Lorans father was an Imperial Navy Officer during the time of Palpatine and for a few years after. He was also a high ranking aristocrat and his family was well respected. But his father was killed when the ignorant Ysanne Isard lost Coruscant. This began Lorans hatred of the Imperial Remnant.

Though he is well educated and associated with high levels of society, he is not arrogant. He is kind and benevolent, and yet can be a deadly adversary. Calculating and cunning, he is firm and extremely loyal to his squad.

Loran has studied and practiced martial arts since he was very young. This makes him far deadlier in melee combat. His skills with blade and fist far outmatch his skills with a blaster.

Loran has a soft spot for children and will kill anyone who harms a child.

He is intimidated by his Assistant Squad Leader Abalar. She scares him and he tries to go out of his way to be nice to her. He greatly respects all members of his squad but Jager more so. The man has sacrificed a lot but Loran doesn't like his rude attitude. But he respects him as a soldier.

Loran considers Corvin and Hassar his friends beyond the squad.

He constantly checks the comm center for messages from his wife. He has an arrangement with a Corporal who smuggles the messages in for him.

He and his wife have been seperated for three years.

Also, no one in the Vast Empire know about his family. His Remnant citizenship and family are deeply buried secrets.

(EFTC) GSGT Jager Luth

Squad mates and friends are different things. Don't get them confused

—Jager on the value of friendship and trust.

  • Self-centered, self-destructive, cynical and at times disconnected. Jager is a scarred and battered shell of a man, propelled by habits and compulsions.
  • He has taken to keeping to himself for the most part, mostly out of paranoia. He has become pessimistic and dour in his views, with his usual sarcasm falling by the wayside.
  • Condescending to those below him, contemptuous of those around him, short and blunt with this above him. He only interacts with people out of necessity, riding them for all their worth before discarding them the moment that worth dries up. Years in the Corps have taught him the value of life, and it is cheap at best.
  • Jager has become paranoid of those around him. In particular of strangers or individuals who know to much about him or his actions. With the VE as a whole rebuilding, the chances that he may be weeded out by an over zealous Intelligence service looking for any sign of further threats from within. He feels it will be only a matter of time before someone catches on to his more treasonous activities.
  • Jager hates the ship. He hates space as well, but his claustrophobia only adds to the problem. For the most part he keeps it discreet. Opting to stay out of sight in the cargo hold for the duration of the journeys, either busying himself with weapons maintenance or training.

Blackjack Equipment

Blackjack Squad has long been known as the go-to squad for when quiet and sneaky is just too darn slow or ineffective. Clad in the Crimson red armor of the Elite, Blackjack is the antithesis of "stealth."

What they lose in the cloak-and-dagger nuances of war they make up for in sheer firepower, mobility and intimidation.

Squad History

Blackjack has been around since the end of the mission to Strak. After the competition ended, the then Dark Dragoons were given a new name, profile and new gear and moved over to Storm Platoon to even out the squads, giving a 3:3 ratio between both Wildcard and Storm platoons. The squad was created due to a need of new combat unit, and since Urban Operations had not yet been used, it was decided that that would be the new role of Blackjack Squad. Since, however, the squad has been changed to Assault Infantry. The squad won the 2009 ESC Competition, and gained the title of Elite Squad. Ironically, it was then transferred back to its ancestral home of sorts in Wildcard Squad.

Mission Log

Balmorra

Radical Restructuring

Blackjack squad's first mission was to Balmorra, a planet in the mid rim. The object of this mission was to protect delegates in the middle of military negotiations with the planetary government and military that would earn a new ally for the Vast Empire. It soon became apparent, however, that the Blackjack's new profile and gear would be put to the test very quickly.

Operations

The operation was meant to last over the course of a week, but with the imminent riot and near civil war about to erupt, Blackjack squad had to pull the plug early to keep both themselves and the delegates alive. However, the mission turned out to be a success, given that Blackjack squad had helped to successfully quell the uprising and restore order to the planet of Balmorra. However, much of the city was left in ruin. Oops.

Bakura

Clickety Clack

Blackjack's second mission sent them to Bakura, a neighboring planet to the Vectra system. A terrorist attack aimed at both the government and the Bakura Repulsorlift Corp was meant to cripple the planet and have the government sink to the the terrorist group known as Black Dawn. Luckily, Blackjack squad stepped in and prevented the takeover from occurring.

Operations

The operation of Blackjack was three fold: one team was sent to deal with the leader of Black Dawn, while another was sent to help out the military in the city to provide backup and heavy support. Finally, the last team was sent to the Bakura Repulsorlift Corp to stop the terrorists from getting a new turbolaser pulser capable of rendering a skyscraper to dust with one shot. The mission was a success, and the terrorists were routed, while the pulser remained safe and under the control of the Bakurans.

Kolstor

Hidden Agenda (Storm Platoon)

Storm Platoon was deployed to Kolstor for overt and covert reasons; publicly, they were simply guarding Imperial Dignitaries, while behind the scenes, the three squads caused massive chaos to enrage and discredit the New Republic forces stationed there, who were also trying for the planet's favor.

Operations

There was a quadruple objective presented for Blackjack squad: terrorize the public, make and break riots, provide a blanket of security, and act as opportunities presented themselves. This was the first time that Blackjack had acted as part of a larger force, and they performed admirably, with the climax of their effectiveness, a raid on the New Republic embassy itself, doing massive damage, killing dozens, and burning down several buildings.

Adumar

Bygone Era

Blackjack's third mission had them deployed onto Adumar covertly. This was because the leading planetary government was hostile to the Vast Empire. Blackjack was to link up with ex-Imperial lead resistence forces and break the back of enemy resistance.

Operations

The objective of this mission was simple: destroy the loyalist ability and resolve to fight. Inserted covertly and led by a local contact to a safe house, Blackjack managed the first stage of their mission perfectly, sending no warning that all hell was to break loose. The day after insertion, Blackjack hit several safe houses and secret police stations. This was the beginning of the war, a war that was over in hours, not days or months or years. A combination of lighting raids, blitzing tanks and fighter craft, and a couple key assassinations of high forces led to the quick and relatively bloodless fall of the Loyalist forces.

Anteevy/Tadeth

My True Enemy Gave to Me... (HSC '08)

Blackjack's second multi-squad mission, it was a multi-location campaign.

Operations

Blackjack was initially to be one of the spearhead squads, the first to land and infiltrate a mercenary base that had been traced to Anteevy. However, before the invasion could begin, Blackjack was called upon to defend the ship against boarders. Once complete, they were re-deployed to the surface, where they infiltrated the base to heavy resistance, burning their way in, and when the call to retreat was sounded, burning their way back out.

After being called back to Tadeth, they assisted Jester squad in hunting down and capturing a slicer, Jak Frozt, and his Noghori bodyguard. Even the two highly trained squads were barely a match for the four alien assassins, but the Stormtroopers prevailed, hunting down and killing all four Noghori and capturing Frozt. The slicer was unfortunately lost before he could be questioned.

Open Space/Unnamed planet

X Marks the Spot

Blackjack was sent on a glorified escort mission. They were sent to secure a transport being shadowed by a pirate vessal.

Operations

Soon after embarking onto the cruiser, they launched to the RV Planet. There, they were about to secure the transport freighter when the two ships came under attack from two Pirate Frigates. The VE Navy easily destroyed one and heavily damaged another, but was disabled in the attempt. Blackjack and a company of marines were sent down to the surface of the planet to secure the transport. After several skirmishes and an all-out battle, Blackjack secured the transport and destroyed the Pirate Frigate.

Tadeth/Vergesso Asteroid Belt

Back To Square One

VE Intelligence were surprised to hear that an unexpected extra pirate ship had appeared during the operations of 'X Marks the Spot.' Blackjack was tasked with determining if there were leaks in the VE Army, Navy, or Intelligence, and then destroy an apparently organized pirate force.

Operations

After investigating the pirate-VE connection, they happened upon a criminal that had connections into the military. They raided his mansion and took him captive, turning him over to the Intel officers that came afterwards. Next, Blackjack made their way into the Vast Empire-Sector Authorities task force that was going to take out the now-located Pirate base. It was headed up by their earlier compatriot, Saul Ipiad. The combined Task force crushed the pirates' space forces and ruthlessly captured the entire base with marginal casualties. Outcome was a handful of prisoners, a pirate space station, and supplies from raided convoys. The Sector Authority officers suffered heavy casualties and were deemed largely useless by their Imperial counterparts, and did not leave on an affectionate note.

Eriadu

The Perfect Storm(Spring Competition)

A multi-objective campaign, Storm Platoon was deployed to the planet of Eriadu to take down New Republic Forces.

Operations

Blackjack first infiltrated the planet by posing as tourists, landing their ship safely in the hanger near the NR Headquarters. The squad made its way to the facility and destroyed its AAA defenses, a series of five Arial Missile Defense Platforms. Having destroyed the guns, Blackjack's backup, three squads from the 37th Battalion landed. Blackjack pulled back to their ship as the 37th attacked. Blackjack suited up and infiltrated the NRHQ via the sewer system and faced moderate opposition. Once they infiltrated the building, they destroyed the guards preventing the 37th Battalion squads from entering the facility. Blackjack was then tasked with seizing one of the 'Big Three' of the NR Defense High Command on Eriadu, a Bothan lieutenant named Marin Collesta. The 37th Battalion squads captured the mainframe and sliced information from it. Blackjack faced the Bothan and her personal squad of SpecForce Commandos, all of whom they defeated and captured Collesta alive.

Eriadu

Devils in the Woodwork

Blackjack, along with the remnants of the 37th Battalion Squads Delta and Echo, are to hold the NRHQ on the planet until support arrives.

Operations

Blackjack squad formed the defense of the NRHQ along with two squads of 37th Battalion soldiers, Delta, a slicer squad, and Echo, a combat squad. These three squads held the facility for three weeks with no combat, setting up traps and preparing fortifications. At the end of the third week, a SpecForce all-out raid including men in jetpacks and armor support assaulted the facility. The three squads were desperately outnumbered but managed to hold their own until they were engulfed and the front door was forced in, leading to SpecForce Commandos inside the facility. They were only saved by the timely arrival of promised reinforcement, two squads of 289th Armored shocktroopers and a squad of 289th Combat Engineers along with MAAT gunship aircover and armor support.

Having forced the forces out of the facility and interrogating a captured enemy, the combined force assaulted a forest base. Fierce resistance came from the New Republic Commandos and troopers in the base, but to no avail; the Stormtroopers cut a swathe through their defenses with a combined-arms assault and managed to plant explosives on the main power generator, destroying the base.

Felucia

Poisoned Paradise

Blackjack is tasked with destroying a Thrawnist bio-weapon and destroying its research staff.

Operations

Blackjack squad dropped from a shuttle onto the jungle planet via jetpacks. After a violent trek through the jungle in which they were attacked by everything from Acklays to Rancors and the native Felucians, bugs, and the foliage itself, they made their way to the Thrwanist base. There, Blackjack confronted and defeated a platoon-strength Stormtrooper brigade and neutralized the bio-weapon. Blackjack also succeeded in executing the entire scientist staff except for the lead brain, who they captured and took hostage. During their extraction, the base was overrun by the native Felucians and Acklay.

Tadath

Crescent Moon, Crimson Sun

Blackjack is to keep order in the post-invasion of Sinat City, which is under marital law. Encountering and putting down mobs of rioters and surviving mercs, they soon find that far more sinister forces are at work in the war-torn capitol...

Operations

Blackjack Squad duly participated in the reconstruction and peacekeeping effort, dealing with the rebellious citizens and mercenaries with true Imperial fervor. Despite unforseen setbacks, several injured troopers, and friction between them and the Army troopers, they quickly completed the assigned task.

Reedex

Blurring Nightmares

Blackjack was assigned to retrieve the mercenary leaders responsible for the incidents on Tadath from their apparent base on the VE planet Reedex and neutralize the traitor presence there, with Platoon Commander Jegora Fal accompanying the squad. Things quickly spiraled out of control.

Operations

Blackjack landed with minimal fuss, which would turn out to be the only part of the plan to go off without a hitch. Splitting up, they ran into numerous groups of mercenaries, eventually taking a farmhouse they had been using as a command post. The squad made its way across the planet, running into difficulties due to its harsh winter and being forced to seek shelter several times. At the orders of Platoon Commander Jegora Fal, they razed a village upon an incident in its bar, killing all the occupants of the building and leaving its residents to seek what shelter they could find.

Eventually, the mercenaries sent a sizable force to find and destroy the squad, leading Squad Leader SFC Tanus to order the commanders' fortress's destruction by orbital bombardment. The base was leveled by a precise strike. The target mercenary commanders were presumably killed in the bombardment.

Arkania/Kohlma

Something Wicked This Way Comes (Halloween Story)

Wildcard Platoon, supported by Storm and Phalanx platoons, is sent to Arkania to disrupt trade and the flow of resources in order to make the Republic an easier target for the VE's inevitable march to Coruscant. Blackjack's mission was to sabotage trade networks.

Operations

Blackjack was launched in a micro-jump towards Arkania. It failed miserably, and they were forced to crash-land on a moon, Kohlma. There, they were beset on all sides by undead creatures (Voshguls) that forced them into a hasty retreat. Eventually, after much blood was spilt, they managed to link up with Wraith, who were being chased by Gora Beasts. Falling back again, they reached a huge structure within which they rendezvoused with Raiders and Iron Horse Squads. Together, the four squads fought their way out and were finally extracted to the Dominion.

Najiba

Traitor

Blackjack was tasked with chasing down a deserting Intel Captain, Brents, who had stolen highly-classified intelligence regarding the scientific observations of the creatures of Kohlma.

Operations

The Blackjacks' new ship Royal Flush was more than up to the task of chasing down the escaping Brents, and quickly neutralized his freighter. After boarding, they killed several dozen mercenaries and forced Brents to flee via an escape pod. They tracked him through a swamp and eventually captured him, taking him back to Tadath for processing.

Tadath

Traitor II

Blackjack, having captured Captain Brents, returns him to the VE Intelligence Agency and waits for its next mission on an orbital defense station. Instead of relaxing and enjoying the downtime, however, the squad ends up learning a good deal more about its members than some of them might be comfortable with...

Operations

After a short wait on the station and a few awkward personal moments, the squad was deployed into one of Tadath's desert regions, assigned as back-up for an Army group fighting dissidents in the area. Brents had revealed information related to a freighter that had been seen landing in the area. The Blackjacks were to help the 14th Army brigade in their on-going efforts to wipe out the insurgents, and hopefully capture the freighter's crew. The squad was presumably successful in its efforts.

Arkania

HSC 2009 - BlackJack

Blackjack Squad is one of the squads assigned to the assault on Arkania, the previous attempt at which had resulted in the Kohlma incident. Alongside two other stormtrooper squads, the explosives-experts of Triton and the scouts of Stalker Squad, the Blackjacks land just outside the enviro-dome containing Arkania's capitol, Adascopolis. From there, they intend to take the city, crushing any resistance from the natives, which will hopefully result in the collapse of resistance elsewhere.

Operations

Abridon

Aggressive Negotiations (Blackjack)

Shortly after the success of the mission to Arkania, Blackjack Squad is given the dubious honour of helping the diplomats persuade the rulers of Abridon that it's in their best interests to embrace the Vast Empire. They decide to go about this by blowing up their factories.
