Welcome to Flight School (FS), the main phase of Basic Training (BT).

During their studies, pilots will learn the basics of character development in stories, TIE-class fighter basics, basic engagement tips, and how to actually belong to an active squadron. Upon completion of this section, active members will be placed in an 'active' squadron, where you can start putting your new-found knowledge to work.

This phase has several parts to it, each of which tries to bring the pilot one step closer to active duty. The duration of Flight School is expected to be a few days, but it is not absolutely necessary to complete it ASAP. (However it is recommended). The VENA-Staff is fairly flexible concerning Basic Training and does its best to accommodate interested members. Upon completion, pilots usually get placed into a squadron within the next few days.

PLEASE NOTE: Should you 'disappear', or neglect your training without notifying a member of staff, you will eventually be expelled from the Academy.

So, without any further ado: Flight School.

Chapter I: The Character

In order for stories to exist they must have a plot, and in order for these plots to work, they need characters - which is where you come in. As a member of the VEN your character is by default a TIE pilot. However, they weren't always so: his or her background, personality, look and style, and any other things are totally up to you. Create an interesting character and you're guaranteed an interesting story. So, lets get creative!

Character Development

Chapter II: The Pilot

As you should have realised upon joining, the Vast Empire is a text-based role-playing environment. As a pilot in the Navy, this means you will be doing a lot of 'role-playing' in your starfighter. In this chapter you will learn the basics of both the vehicles and the equipment used regularly in the Vast Empire Navy, and the types of conventions that make a good post. The goal of this course is to supply you with enough detail to achieve more elaborate and extensive posts as times goes on. Above all else, this chapter exists to make your writing believable.

Chapter III: The Squadron

Just as every person must know themselves, so to should they know their squadronmates. In the final chapter of flight school, you shall learn the basics of being in a squadron, and the requirements of active duty. Inside is the essential guide to knowing what is expected out of any new recruit when they enter service. Once you have passed this chapter you may move on to the final test.
