LOTR CAST VISITS EPISODE II SET
Posted by VE Reporter
The Force Network posted the following article of interest:
Jar Jar Binks wasn't dreaming when he heard the patter of little furry feet. No, it wasn't Chewbacca's offspring trying to get jobs. On the set of "Star Wars: Episode II--The Clone Wars," the four inseparable Hobbits from "The Lord of the Rings" were checking out the competition.
Sean Astin, who plays Samwise Gamgee in "Rings," reports to Big Pix, "We took a Hobbit field trip to the 'Star Wars' set in Sydney, Australia, which wasn't far from where we were shooting 'Rings' in New Zealand. The funny part is the minute we arrived, George Lucas' people got out the walkie talkies and began announcing, 'Attention, the Hobbits have arrived.' "
As for old Jar Jar: "He was a real cool guy. He pointed out Yoda to me, who was shorter than I expected," Astin says. "But the real thrill was hanging out with [Lucas]. He was real curious about what we were doing.
"Were we still filming? Who played what character? It's hard when you have to tell George Lucas, 'Uh, we can't really talk about it.' "
The flipside? Astin says, "Me, as a 'Star Wars' freak, asked him all about "Episode II'' and George just smiled and said, 'You'll have to wait even if you are a Hobbit.' "
Incidentally, it's good to be a Hobbit. The film raked in more Fro-dough this weekend, finishing in the No. 1 position at the box office.
