STC Officers

Upon being commissioned as an officer in the Vast Empire Stormtrooper Corps, a member incurs a lasting obligation to cherish and develop his club and to develop within himself that capacity and reserve strength which will enable him to serve its arms and the welfare of his fellow VEers with increasing wisdom, diligence, and conviction.

This is the meaning of officership. It is not modified by any reason of assignment while in the service, nor is the obligation lessened on the day an officer puts the uniform aside and returns to a life outside the club. Having been specially chosen by the Vast Empire to sustain the dignity and integrity of the site, an officer is expected so to maintain himself, and so to exert his influence for so long as he may live, that he will be recognized as a worthy symbol of all that is best in the Vast Empire.

In this sense the trust imposed in the highest commander on the site is not more than what is encharged the newest second lieutenant. Nor is it less. It is the fact of officership which gives special distinction to the man/woman and in turn requires that the measure of his devotion to the service of the Vast Empire be distinctive, as compared with the charge laid upon the average trooper.

Other than the officer corps, there is no group within our site toward which the obligation of the site is more fully expressed. Even so, other VEers regard this fact with pride, rather than with envy. They accept the principle that some unusual advantage should attend exceptional and unremitting responsibility. Whatever path a Vast Empire officer may walk on the site, he enjoys prestige. Though little is known of his intrinsic merit, he will be given the respect of his fellow members, unless he proves himself utterly undeserving.

This esteem for the officers is one of the priceless assets of the Corps. The troopers themselves so recognize it. That there is such strong emphasis upon the importance of personal honor among officers is because they know that the future of our site and the well-being of our troopers depend upon a constant renewing and strengthening of public faith in the virtue of the corps. Were this to languish, the Vast Empire would be loath to commit its recruits to any active duty unit, no matter how grave the inactivity. The works of goodwill by which those who lead the Vast Empire endeavor to win the unreserved trust of the Vast Empire members is one of the chief preservatives of the site. The character of the officers is in a most direct sense a final safeguard of the character of the club.

Becoming an Officer[edit]

To start on the path of becoming an officer, a member must first be of either the rank First Sergeant or the rank Sergeant Major and an active member of the Vast Empire for 18 months (year and a half). They will be expected to display behavior befitting of an officer and take responsibility for their actions. The ideal officer candidate will also take interest in duties beyond his position and volunteer to assist in these activities.

The Officer Qualification Test (which shall be less than 50 questions) must also be taken by the Officer Candidates, and may be taken at anytime while a First Sergeant or a Sergeant Major. The exam will permit the member to achieve the rank of Second Lieutenant (or higher) for six months after submission with a passing grade. Should the six months pass without promotion to an officer rank, they must retake the exam to achieve officer rank.
