Vast Empire Wiki:Wiki standardization

The Vast Empire Wiki currently holds several variations of different themes, methods, and styles. As of now, we are looking to standardize all of our pages to fit with a defined theme. Any questions or comments relating to this page should be directed to this page's talk page.

The standardization conventions are as follows:

Page Titles

All topics should have only the first letter capitalized (exceptions are proper nouns, or acronyms like FAQ or AC). So instead of "Cool Items" you would make topic "Cool items" and carry about your editing. The one exception to this rule, is category pages, of which are always fully capitalized.

Section Titles

Section titles should be capitalized as if they were book titles. (The section title for this section is.. "Section Titles").

Page Prefixes

All pages must fit within their proper prefixes, with no exceptions. This is to keep everything in order.

The current prefixes are:

• (none) - These are the normal pages of the VEWiki, Player Character pages go here, NPCs, Story Outline pages, and most everything else.
• User: - These are typically set to redirect to one's character page.
• VEWiki: - This prefix is used for pages relating directly to the VEWiki, such as this one.
• Image: - All images are uploaded with this prefix, this is usually automatic, so don't worry about it too much.
• Template: - This is the prefix required of all Template pages.
• Help: - Here all pages relating to assisting others with using the VEWiki are placed.
• Category: - This page holds several other pages for easy reference. Usually this is titles as a grouping.

Categorization

All pages must be categorized in some manner, including categories themselves. The only exception to this are the 'core pages' (Main Page and Category:VEWiki (which redirects to the main page). There are several other 'primary categories' to be determined at a later date which do not require categorization.

Images

All images must be placed on a page through thumbnail syntax: [[Image:ImageName.jpg|thumb|Caption.]].

Exceptions do exist for images placed into some templates, such as the character profile box, or the ribbon/rank images in one's service history templates.

Specific Pages

Character Pages

All character pages must comply with a set template for their user information sidebar, which as of this time is undecided. Discussion of what to use is open to debate on the Comnet here
