The All Terrain Siege Platform (AT-SP) walker is a design built for one specific task. It was created to hold an objective - bridgehead, battle line, what have you - for as long as feasibly possible.

Description[edit]

For all the bristled cannon, the most important element in the AT-SP is defense. It is equipped with a heavy shield generator, one capable of sustaining protection even from main fire from an AT-AT almost indefinitely. In the event of a tactical nuclear strike, the AT-SP shields have shown the ability to sustain operations at up to the 2 MT range, far and above most battlefield applications.

With the Rebellion fielding actual military forces instead of terror raids, the Imperial Army had to do something it rarely had to do since the days of the Grand Army of the Republic - engage in major field operations. The AT-SP was to used as a part of an initial planetary assault. Ideally, it would be landing by drop barges outside of the defensive shield bubble. Once on ground it would move forward under the enemy anti-bombardment shields and establish a beachhead, generating its own shields and eliminating any adversarial armor, artillery, and defensive emplacements. Even fortifications that could overpower AT-ATs, AT-SEs, and A6 Juggernauts would not be capable of overwhelming an AT-SP. Obviously, most craft would - and would wish to - outrun the slow moving AT-SP, but that, too, would be part of its purpose on the battlefield.

Once established, theater shields activated, the AT-SP could deploy its infantry complement, anything from a company to battalion size, depending on supporting vehicles. The AT-SPs shielding would be capable of providing protection for any vehicles with an appropriate IFF designation operating in its vicinity and the shield barrier and defensive weapons are proof against most armor and light naval craft in atmospheric operations, up to a light corvette should the need arise.
