BY-B2 Fighter/Bomber
Characteristics[edit]
After initial successes at Yavin IV and other battles, the Alliance received new funding from worlds and patrons more willing to openly side with the Rebels once they had proven themselves. One of the first things the leadership approved were plans to upgrade materiel, particularly starfighters, to match the might of the Empire.
Koensayr Manufacturing, maker of the venerable Y-Wing, was given the option to propose a new bomber design. As the current mission profile of an Alliance squadron was hit-and-fade missions, the goal was to make a sturdy platform, that was quick and capable of keeping up with most escort fighter craft, as well as carry a significant and varied assortment of munitions. The BY-B2 fit the bill and was appropriated for Outer Rim duty. Meanwhile, the tides of war changed and the Rebellion increasingly became involved in head-to-head fleet combat, where bombers had to be capable of taking a lot of abuse. In this realm, the multi-role B-Wing design reigned supreme and the BY-B2 was left in the Outer Rim fighting skirmishes through the rest of the Civil War.
And there it remained, becoming part of many planetary defense forces, and eventually adopted as a key component of the Corellian Defense Forces as well.
