Bio[edit]
Appearance & Personality[edit]
Ven 'Balac' Kando is a serious looking man who rarely cracks a smile. He is left embittered with the loss of his parents and shows little emotion, although he feels it strongly. He may seem cold and uncaring but is very loyal to friends and would do anything to protect those he cares about. He despises acts of, or defenses for, cowardice. He's very reserved and says very little in most conversations that aren't directly including him.
History[edit]
Early Days[edit]
Ven 'Balac' Kando was born on Mandalore and raised with typical Mandalorian heritage, starting his training at 8 years old. The next 5 years were spent in military and survival training. He held his first blaster shortly after starting training and has used an assortment of weapons since: melee weapons, rifles, pistols, heavy explosive weapons, and large cannon emplacements. His parents taught him valuable skills in weapons handling, survival, importance of family, and put large emphasis on the future and living life to it’s fullest.
Later Days[edit]
At age 15, Balac received his first full set of beskar'gam. He started operating more independently on missions with his parents, and occasionally took solo missions for the Republic; training Republic troops, assisting in defenses, even the occasional assassination mission. Due to his enthusiasm in spotting and taking opportunities, his parents gave him the name Balac, meaning 'opportunity' in Mando'a. On his missions, Balac often used, and became adept with; the A280, DC-15, EE-3 Blaster Rifles, and his favorite: a Verpine Shatter Gun (sniper variant). Balac soon became an exceptional marksman and the pride of his parents. A year later...
Parents' Death[edit]
...At age 16, working for the Republic, his parents were killed on a ground operation by Imperial troops due to the inability of Republic tacticians planning the mission. Balac and his parents were sent to help reinforce the defenses of a Republic base. While his parents were directing Republic troops, and doing what they could to prepare everyone for the attack... it came. Catching everyone by surprise, half of the Republic troops were cut down within the first two minutes. Working as a sniper, he watched troops on both sides fall through the scope of his rifle. He saw his parents, fighting valiantly, as usual. The Republic troops, trying to find cover, and escape the volume of fire coming from the Imperials, managed little more than creating a bigger mess of the situation in the already crowded part of the base. Watching blaster bolt after blaster bolt deflect off his parents armour, he turned back to picking off stormtroopers. The Republic troops were being pushed back, despite all the efforts to hold the line. His parents were, (to their disgust), supervising the 'tactical retreat' of the Republic troops. Trying to keep watch over the heads of the troops, his parents were standing on unmarked boxes.. filled with unused explosives the Republic had planned to use as a trap against the Imperial forces and foolishly dumped in the middle of the sector. A mighty explosion and the rest of the troops, along with two AT-ST's and a dozen stormtroopers were vaporized, and little was left of his parents except a few armour pieces.
Joining the Empire[edit]
Over the next two years, Balac worked on increasing his skills, and learned new skills when he could. He moved from place to place, doing odd jobs to get by. He took the name Ven Kando to symbolize how he and his parents felt of the importance of having a future. Tiring of the stereotypical idea of just 'another credit-loving Mandalorian merc for hire', he eventually drifted to a planet with a recruiting office and signed up to join the Vast Empire to avenge his parents’ honorless death and aid in driving out the incompetent Republic ideal.
Shatterpoint[edit]
This was Balac's first mission under the Empire. Shortly before he left for the beautiful crystalline world of Agea, he was assigned to Eclipse Squad. Eclipse fought by the side of RAIDERS to reach a Republic base, going through caverns under Agea's surface. Overwhelming the defense position of the Republic troops, they were soon afterwards caught in an ambush. Escaping mostly unharmed, the squads met a Jedi, a member of a previously thought to be an extinct Order. Although he wished to combat the Jedi, the chance wasn't meant to be. After the mission, Balac received the Emperor's Will First Class and a promotion to Lance Corporal.
Red Exodus[edit]
Blackjack and Eclipse squads were sent to Bakura to silence a dangerous media group by the name 'Blood Saints'. Blackjack and Eclipse were split for separate tasks during this mission. The job of Eclipse was to demolish hideouts used by the Blood Saints. The mission ended during a climatic battle between Eclipse and the Blood Saints, who were aided by the Mandalorian supremest group known as the Death Watch and led by Norith Skarr's former thought-to-be-dead mentor, Jared Nolac. Eclipse confronted Nolac after the intense battle, although Nolac managed to escape. Balac was promoted to Corporal during this mission, and later to Sergeant after mission completion. Proudly receiving the Iron Heart medal.
