From a young child, IIan(then named Trask by the Pirate Admiral Darren Bandaar) was in the employ of the Red Dragon Order. Bounced from ship to ship as a deckhand or engineering operator, he learned the finer points of being a spacer. As he grew older he became more and more involved in the pirate side of business, boarding ships, and cutting throats. By the time he was almost twenty he became heavily involved in the planning of the massive invasion of the planet Lorelei.
As the invasion played out and the subsequent counterattack by the Imperial Remnant group, IIan Trask Cand was able to escape the capital city with Raigen Tei-Yehn and his company to the northern region as Imperial troops pursued them. At the final stand, as IIan and a handful of others escaped the planet in a clone war era transport while Raigen fired the mining arrays into the Imperial Fleet.
Upon arrival in Nar Shaddaa, the few survivors of the Lorrelian Campaign(Less than one percent of the Combined Lorelei Poppulation, Imperial Fleet, and RDA fleet survived.) split up, with the majority going into hiding within other Imperial Remnants or outward to the Unknown regions. IIan Cand sought refuge with the Hutts, who immediatly turned him over to the Imperial Remnant who organized the counter-attack. After a very publc, humiliating trial, IIan was imprisoned and tortured to give up information on the RDO and its affiliates. He was tortured for the next few months before a New Republc purge of the system he was imprisoned in liberated his prison complex. Cand was then processed for asylum in the New Republic but his pirate tatoos led the NR to transfer him to a prison complex in Bespin before he was subsequently transferred to Coruscant for trial.
Although Republic arbitrators were initially reluctant to defend him because of his assumed guilt of piracy, eventually he was released because of a lack of physical evidence and the defense that his tattoos were brands he recieved as a child when he was a "slave" to a pirate group(this was a farce, but it worked nonetheless). After his release he returned to the RDO to retrieve a few personal effects and quit the pirate group for good. After a parting message from the interim leader of the Order claiming that no one leaves the Order, but the Order leaves them, IIan Became a transport pilot in the outer rim. Debt quickly built up on him and he soon found he had only two options...Return to piracy and give up the hope of a normal life, or enter the service of the Vast Empire. After selling his ship and using his signing bonus to pay off his debts, IIan Trask Cand entered into the service of the VEN.
