History:
Lain grew up in a wealthy household. She'd always been told her parents were merchants, but from an early age she had suspected there was something more sinister to their wealth. Around the age of twelve, she had begun to shun the trappings of a well off family, favouring plain clothes and only owning the bare minimum for survival. She treated the servants like real people, and they had always respected her for that. They often took time out of their busy day to spend time with her.
Excelling at all of her school endeavours, and being from a wealthy family, had made Lain a target for less apt and less fortunate students. She quickly learned to defend herself, getting into many physical fights. It enraged her that she was never the one punished, probably because of her family's status. By her sixteenth birthday she couldn't wait to get out of the family home and make her own way in the world, but her father would not lose his only daughter. He pressured her to take over the family business. Finally she found out the truth behind her father's success.
Lain had no intention of becoming a criminal like her parents. She used every excuse she could think of to prolong her freedom from being tutored in the tricks of their trade. When it became too difficult to keep her parents off her back, she searched for a way off her home planet, believing it to be the only way to escape them. She stumbled across a mobile Imperial recruiting station and without a second thought signed up for the army. She convinced herself that there she could make a difference, and rid the galaxy of scum like the family she no longer wanted to be a part of.
