Overview[edit]

The boys and girls of Triton Squad are completely insane. At least that's the impression you'll get if you ask anyone who's worked with them. They juggle amounts of explosives that would make even heavy weaponeers blanch, and take an inordinate amount of glee in their work. Explosions follow in their wake, most of which can be accounted for as ordered. The Tritons seem to be oblivious to the dangers of the work, and do it with every sign of enjoyment. Whether this means they're mad or simply making the best of their situation is somewhat unclear, but the Tritons are undeniably quite proficient at their primary task. This doesn't stop most other squads from making sure they're a safe distance away from the blast zone when the Tritons are around though.

History[edit]

Formation and History[edit]

Triton Squad was formed relatively recently in the Vast Empire's history. It went through several leaders in rapid succession, with the first apparently going insane after three missions and committing a bizarre triple murder/suicide that leveled the squad's barracks. The second lasted for several weeks, then was killed in a speeder accident when he tripped over a curb after coming out of a bar heavily drunk. The third simply vanished while on leave, and was eventually declared AWOL due to lack of evidence or alternative theories. Brock Corzina would normally be considered too inexperienced to lead a squad, but was eventually appointed due to the lack of any other competent candidates. Time will tell if Brock will prove to be the one who breaks the supposed "Triton Curse".

Notable History[edit]

Triton Squad's first mission was to infiltrate a Vast Imperial monitoring station that had been captured by dissidents, retrieve the loyal crewmen who had manned the station before its capture, and disable the explosives that the leader claimed had been placed throughout the station. Scans of the station revealed the approximate location of the devices, and the Tritons were sent in while the Navy provided a distraction. The Tritons quickly found and disabled the explosives, although the leader had the majority of the hostages executed before the Tritons could rescue them. The dissident leader then attempted to crash the station into the planet below, which was a Vast Imperial ally and valuable mining world, but was stopped by a multi-squad strike team.

Triton Squad would then be assigned to destroy a Republic gas mining facility, which they did flawlessly, and destroy the defensive systems of a Thrawnist fortress on Grevan Minor. Upon Grevan Minor's reconquest, they returned to Tadath for some well-earned shore leave.

The crazed Sergeant Jeric would murder several Army personnel while on leave, loot a supply depo, and rig the barracks with high explosive, for reasons that are yet unknown. The Sergeant's personal hololog, recovered from the ruins, provides information as to his state of mind but surprisingly little as to the reasons for his deed. The Sergeant then recalled the squad to the barracks under the pretense of a meeting, before activating the explosives. Fortunately, several of the detonators malfunctioned, resulting in a far smaller explosion than Jeric had intended. The barrack's implosion still managed to kill the insane SL, however, along with three of the troopers. After an investigation, and the recovery of the surviving Tritons, the Squad ASL, Corporal Yisas Hran, was promoted to Sergeant and given command of the squad.

The weakened Triton Squad was not to recieve time to recover from its injuries, however. Upon the conclusion of the official investigation, the surviving demolitions troopers were given the assignment of helping the commando squad Shade Squad in their ongoing efforts to destroy infrastructure and reduce morale on the Republic world of Xerian III. The Tritons arrived undetected, and managed to rendezvous with the Shades. Their efforts to complete their mission constantly seemed to go wrong, however. Eventually, the Tritons discovered the Shades had betrayed the Empire, and were serving the Republic as double agents. The Tritons managed to relay news of the Shades' betrayal, and barely made it back to Vast Imperial territory in one piece.

Several hazardous missions(and new victims/recruits) later, the squad was dealt a severe blow in the form of the loss of their second SL. Hran had kept the squad together and morale high, despite her notorious temper, and her loss meant a considerable drop in the squad's effectiveness and spirit. Various solutions were bandied about, including disbanding. Eventually( much arguing and one vanishing SL later) , the inexperienced but popular trooper Brock Corzina was given command of the squad, with the reasoning that the troops would be likely to follow him than an outsider and that it would be easy to see if he was not up to the task. Command was to be thoroughly vindicated in their decision upon the squad's subsequent resounding victory on Grevic's Moon.

Trivia[edit]

  • Triton Squad is named after a clone commando squad that served with distinction during the Clone Wars and early Galactic Civil War.
  • It's named after a mollusk native to the ocean planet Hiaiwa, famous for its thick back plates capable of taking slugthrower rounds without shattering. As the Tritons can withstand anything the ocean throws at them, so Triton Squad withstands the worst the galaxy has to offer.
  • No one's quite sure why the kriff Command decided to name a squad "Triton". (Maybe they were all drunk.)
