The Skill: Field Repairs[edit]

It is a sad fact of life that equipment breaks. Malfunctions happen, guide-rails snap and electronics short-circuit. Under normal circumstances, this isn't too terrible. When blaster bolts are flashing overhead and your shield generator shorts out or the Ion Cannon's crystal matrix gets bumped out of alignment, however, things become a little more urgent. In situations like this, you can't afford to hire a tug and drag your ship off to the nearest drydock for repairs. In situations like this, you'll need to patch it up yourself.

To successfully perform field repairs, you need to have an intimate knowledge of the craft or weapon that you are attempting to fix, as well as an in-depth knowledge of the technology and machinery that it uses to work. You need to be able to perform bypasses, patch up punctured hulls and re-solder wires or re-align targeting crystals. Unless you're in the Fleet, you likely won't have the luxury of an Astromech droid to aid you, so the job becomes undoubtedly complicated..

The chances of survival are 725...to one.

Specialisation Mission: "That Stabilizer's broken loose..."[edit]

After studying the basics of performing repairs in the field, and memorizing in-depth specifications and blueprints, you are ready to prove that you have learned the basics of field repairs. You will be assigned a hangar bay in which a VE TIE Interceptor appears to be malfunctioning. You are to locate the source of the problem and rectify it. Your character won't know what the problem is, so you will have to use your imagination to create something challenging.

VENA Instructors will be looking for believable storytelling, proof that you have researched the specifications of the TIE Interceptor, and that you have learned basic repair techniques and tools. As always, realistic and interesting storytelling is a must.

Qualification Mission: "I'm hit, but not bad!"[edit]

It's a big job, but someone's gotta order the droids to do it.

After extensive training and a few chances to demonstrate your ability to repair equipment in less-than-ideal situations, you are finally prepared to take the next step in learning how to keep your gear running past its warranty. In this simulated mission, your fighter (If you're SFC) or station (If you're Fleet) takes a direct hit, and something shorts out! Using your knowledge and experience of field repairs, you will restore the damaged systems to temporary working order. You will need to do so very quickly, as you are still under enemy fire.

VENA Instructors will be looking for highly realistic storytelling and proof that you have achieved a high degree of proficiency in the unique challenge of attempting to repair equipment whilst avoiding being shot yourself!.

Skill Equipment: Advanced Field Repair Kit[edit]

Small enough to be mounted in a starfighter's cockpit or near your station in a capital ship, the advanced repair kit contains welders, hydrospanners, replacement wires and components and a complete blueprint of the equipment you are currently assigned to, as well as the safety gear required to operate the repair tools in question. Through perseverance, a good imagination and the skills you have learned, these tools will enable you to perform complex battlefield repairs under high-stress situations.

Naval Certifications[edit]

Once you have Qualified in Survival, you are one step closer to being able to complete the following Certification:
Emergency Mechanic: From the snows of Hoth to the vacuum of space, if something breaks down, you'll be the first on the scene. Able to patch up a fighter or cannon under fire, emergency mechanics are vital.
