Emperor Palpatine is perhaps the greatest negotiator to have lived. Do /you/ dare disagree?

The Skill: Diplomacy[edit]

Not every conflict needs to end in bloodshed, and for as long as there have been disagreements, there have been those few people with the insight and interpersonal skills to help settle disputes and calm down angry sentient beings with a few well-placed words and gestures, and with the insight to see past the petty recriminations and to the real, underlying problem. Diplomats are not warriors, but they are an important part of warfare: They are the ones whom, in the end, will ensure that a conflict ends.

The Vast Empire is not the despotic, tyrannical regime that Palpatine's Empire was, and not all conflicts need to end with an overwhelming display of force. It is through alliances and agreements that the Vast Empire has won some of its greatest victories, such as the alliance with BioTech Industries and with the Gran people. This course is designed to enable you to look for non-violent solutions to problems, and is also a great help for those seeking leadership skills.

We have been tested, but we have emerged stronger. We moved forward as one people - the Imperial citizens of the first Galactic Empire. We will prevail! Ten thousand years of peace begins today!

—Emperor Palpatine, during the Deceleration of the New Order.

Specialisation Mission: "There are alternatives to fighting."[edit]

You have attended conflict resolution classes and have studied diplomatic talks, but now as you relax off-duty, you find yourself in the unfortunate position of being forced to use them! You have accidentally slighted a Wookiee whom has not taken kindly to being bumped into. Although you cannot understand what he is saying, you can get the gist. The mission? CALM THE WOOKIEE DOWN!.
VENA Instructors will be looking for believable storytelling, proof that you have researched the subject species, and that you have learned techniques for helping to calm an angered individual and resolve a dispute. As always, realistic and interesting storytelling is a must.

Qualification Mission: "My negotiations will NOT fail!"[edit]

Generally speaking, this is NOT how to go about it.

After extensive training and a few chances to demonstrate your ability in the field of diplomacy in real situations, you are finally prepared to take the next step in learning how to save lives off the battlefield. This is no simulation: You have volunteered your services to an important negotiation in the calm between two missions. Your objective: Using your knowledge and experience in negotiations, you will convince a trade delegation from a neutral, reluctant world to join the Vast Empire.
VENA Instructors will be looking for highly realistic storytelling and proof that you have achieved a high degree of proficiency in the field of negotiations. The delegation will NOT be human.

Skill Equipment: 3PO Personal Translator Droid[edit]

Capable of speaking in six million languages and able to learn or be programmed with many more, and also versed in nonverbal communication and in being able to read motives and unspoken body language, a protocol droid is a must for any budding diplomat whom expects to speak with many different species and cultures.

Assigned to you and you alone, this droid is yours to command for as long as you serve with the Vast Empire. One thing is for sure - you won't need to worry about communication troubles with Wookiees again!.
