Imperial Academy Cadets familiarising themselves with zero gravity

The Skill: Zero Gravity[edit]

Artificial Gravity is an integral part of life support - it ensures that even in space, our feet are firmly planted on the deck plating of our starship, as opposed to floating wherever. Sometimes, however, the artificial gravity fails or a navy member must operate outside of its comforting embrace. With nothing to hold you down, this can be disorienting and can seriously hamper an untrained individual's ability to perform their expected tasks - or keep the contents of their stomach down.

The Vast Empire's Zero-G program was originally created specifically for Hazardous Operations specialists and Imperial Marines, training them to work and fight without gravity. The VENA has now extended this training regime to all members of the Imperial Navy, if they wish. It will train you to be able to operate without gravity unhindered, and at higher levels, to be able to turn it to your advantage when your life depends on it.

Artificial Gravity is the first thing we hit. Most spacers never see it coming - it gives us an edge.

Specialisation Mission: "No gravity? No problem."[edit]

You have attended zero gravity familiarisation classes, and you have gotten used to the strange effects that it has on your body - especially your stomach. You have learned how to anchor yourself and how to guard your movements to not push yourself across a room by mistake. Your ship is undergoing a SURPRISE ATTACK DRILL, and the artificial gravity has been turned off. Get to your station and ready for battle without the comfort of gravity.
VENA Instructors will be looking for believable storytelling, proof that you have researched the effects of zero-gravity on motion, and that you have learned techniques that will help you overcome this difficulty. As always, realistic and interesting storytelling is a must.

Qualification Mission: "This is not a drill!"[edit]

An Imperial Marine candidate undergoing Zero-G Combat Training.

After extensive training and a few chances to demonstrate your ability to operate unaided by gravity, you are finally prepared to take the next step in learning how to work when floating in the air. In this simulated mission: Using your knowledge and experience of zero gravity, you will travel from your bunk to your station and then perform your duties in battle conditions, without the help of gravity. This is no drill, and you may have to evade boarders.
VENA Instructors will be looking for highly realistic storytelling and proof that you have achieved a high degree of proficiency in the effects and opportunities of Zero Gravity.

Skill Equipment: AJP-400 Hush-About personal jetpack[edit]

Silent and energy-efficient, the Hush-Bbout personal jetpack enables you to jump distances of 500 meters horizontally or 200 meters vertically per charge, and it has ten charges per fuel cell before that cell needs to be replaced or recharged. It is extremely useful in situations without gravity, where it can be set to the lowest power setting for hundreds of uses.

Naval Certifications[edit]

Once you have Qualified in Diplomacy, you are one step closer to being able to complete the following Certification:
Imperial Marine: As deadly on the ground as they are in space, Imperial Marines excel at fighting at close quarters and can fight just as well in Zero-Gravity, making them the ultimate warrior in boarding actions.
HAZOP Specialist: You need neither gravity nor oxygen to be able to do your job - a Spacetrooper, you can work in the vacuum of space or the acid rains of Vjun without fear.
