Biography[edit]

Appearance[edit]

Aelin is a slender woman with naturally blue eyes and hair inherited from a distant non-human ancestor. She has a thin but long scar running diagonally down her back as a result of a victim's attempt to defend himself. When off-duty, she wears a jumpsuit retained from 'the old days'.

Personality[edit]

Aelin has a dispassionate, professional attitude towards everyone and has little empathy for either her enemies or her allies. That attitude, combined with her strong sense of self-preservation, often puts her at odds with... well, pretty much everyone. Despite what her previous experience as a rebel assassin would suggest, she is a very by-the-book Imperial who doesn't take crazy chances or pull suicidal stunts if she can avoid it. She hardly ever laughs, and can't stand overly cheerful people. She values the chain of command, if for no other reason than it keeps her teammates alive and useful. Like most Imperials, she's strongly xenophobic.

History[edit]

Aelin was raised by her two parents in the harsh urban environment of Timbra Ott. Her parents were lead assassins in the mercenary faction, and trained her in the same profession. By her ninth birthday, she was already accompanying and assisting her parents in field missions involving hunting down and killing rival faction members. She quickly learned to feel no remorse for the slayings, because as her parents explained to her, the enemy consisted of "soulless killers" who "would do the same to you in a heartbeat". Her mother's explanation of their motives became the driving force for her career: "There are people out there who don't want us to create peace and order. It's our job to show them they're wrong." Her worldview was significantly altered during an assault on the enemy base. where members of her team robbed and murdered relatively innocent bystanders. If Aelin had been more empathetic, that would've made her realize that her teammates were no more than "soulless killers". Instead, she simply decided to join a force much more capable of restoring order, and, in her eyes, less focused on personal goals: the Empire. She sabotaged her faction's efforts, stole an old beat-up Z-95 Headhunter, and fled. She found the nearest Empire-aligned world and applied for a position in the army. After less than a year of service she was discharged for abandoning critically injured members of her squad. While leaving the base she ran into a ex-navy pilot who, after hearing her story, recommended she try the Navy next. Soon afterwards, the fledgling New Republic caused the collapse of the formal Galactic Empire. While she worked as an independent mercenary, she studied Imperial tactics and regulations, becoming more and more convinced of its ability to ensure order. She stumbled across the Vast Empire during one of her jobs, and, remembering the pilot's suggestion, she applied for the Starfighter Corps. She was by no means the most skilled pilot, but her rigid adherence to standard flight maneuvers and protocols earned her a place in the Naval Academy. Her squadronmates quickly learned to keep their distance, and after a single mission were able to get her discharged from the Navy on bigotry charges. She grudgingly joined the Stormtrooper Corps rather than go back to risking her skin alone.
