The State of the Empire[edit]

With the death of Emperor Palpatine, the armed forces of the Empire have split into various factions. The Vast Empire is but one of many. Some are concerned with protecting valuable Imperial resources until the chain of command resolves itself. This was the primary goal of Imperial units in the Deep Core, or - for a time - at the research facilities at Despayre and many other locations.

Other forces banded together nominally to fight the fledgling New Republic, though most were quite happy to attack any Imperial forces not flying under their banner. Grand Admiral Thrawn was initially in this heading, but having survived his conquests, setbacks, and attempted assassination he has learned that to fight, one also has to rule.

And thus, we have another type of Imperial faction: the divided Empire. From Director Ysanne Isard commanding the forces known as the Remnant to Thrawn's dual entities the Laibon Empire and the lesser known Empire of the Hand, major players have brought fleets and sectors together, insisting their faction is the legitimate heir of Palpatine.

Other, smaller, mini-Empires also exist, the Vast Empire among them. Some exist only to submit obediently under a legitimate faction leader. Still some have become, in behavior as well as name, warlord empires loyal only to themselves. From Warlord Zsinj to Admirals Delvardus and Harrsk, the might of the Empire is divided against those who would re-establish order and those who dare only to profit from continued war.

The Vast Empire maintains diplomatic contact with as many of the vying factions as possible. Some relationships are genuinely friendly and good for shared missions, protection, and trade. Others are outright hostile. Our worlds have been attacked by our supposed brethren. Still others are nominally neutral. We are either too far from a particular faction or have no mutual benefit in seeking status as either allies or adversaries.

What follows is a list of the major factions, our status with them (if any), and any particular details we may have regarding them. This list is incomplete, constantly in flux, and subject to changes depending on results of our campaigns and other outside forces.
