History[edit]

The Despoiler was commissioned by the Patoran navy nearly one hundred years ago, during something of a golden era of Patoran manufacturing as the Agrippa. It is the only remaining Pulsar class carrier and was one of four sister ships originally created/ It served as the flagship of the fleet for nearly forty years. Joseph Hague was given command of the aging Agrippa shortly before the battle of Yavin. By this time Patoran manufacturing had long fallen to the ship yards and the main stay of the fleet was made up of ships built far away from Ator. Joseph Hague oversaw the last refit of the Vessel in 2ABY when the weapons systems were updated to give the ship enough firepower to stay in service.

After Captain Hague was forecibly retired command fell to the ships second in command Odan Leftcourt When the fleet was placed under the command of the "Mad Duke" Jordan Atsin much of the fleet was replaced with newer models, paid for with the "Mad Duke's" personal funds. When the Duke started replacing long serving officers with mercenaries and his own friends great discontentment began to simmer amongst the old guard. When the "Mad Duke" declared himself "Grand Moff" of the Patoran Empire and took his fleet off on a rampage through the local sector Hague and Leftcourt hatched a plan to steal the ship.

The grand carrier was renamed the Despoiler when it began use for nefarious purposes.

General Characteristics[edit]

The Despoiler was created using a unique modular design system, which is the sole reason for it's continuting service. The hull was built with such precision and proved itself so robust that the Patorans have retrofitted the ship no less than thirteen times in it's history. Every system is easily removed and replaced without comprimising the ships efficiency by design and as an unplanned side effect the ships of this class have been very easy to repair over the years. Whilst the shielding system is beginning to show it's age (being more than thirty years old) the navigation, weapons, propulsion and comminication systems have all been upgraded relatively recently. Unfortunately whilst the ship's power source has been upgraded over time the energy conduits are fully integrated and therefore the ship is prone to energy fluctuations and is clear that it cannot handle the stress of all systems at full output.

The ship's principle function is as a Carrier/Support ship. The large split prow allows ships to exit the hanger straight into the battle, or the Despoiler can place the enemy ship slightly abeam and allow fighters to exit in multiple vectors covered by the carrier's hull. The large split prow and launch bays limit the Despoiler's forward firepower with only the large super heavy dorsal cannons in an elevated position and some missile tubes offering any real threat to other capital ships to the prow. Instead the Despoiler features heavy batteries on the deck which can fire in all directions except the prow. The main tactic is for the relativelty fast cruiser to approach the enemy head on, launching its fighter complement at close proximity and then to turn and put the enemy within the starboard or port firing solutions.

Other than the two super heavy turbo lasers clearly visible on the ships upper decks the Despoiler's weaponry features a large amount of relatively light laser cannons. Whilst at close range these can pose a threat to capital ships it mostly focusses on dealing with enemy fighters and utilises it's bomber complement as the main weapon against any heavy ships. Whilst it's durable hull means the ship can deploy it's complement right in the heart of a battle it cannot go toe-to-toe with larger and more modern ships like Imperial Star Destroyers. When outmatched ships of this class will often deploy fighters from a distance and just supply supporting fire.

The Despoiler's general purpose bays are capable of holding many of the smaller freighters of the Osk fleet as well as it's fighter complement with ease. Along with The Broken Crown it forms the heart of the new nomadic Osk fleet.
