History

Hatched as a gigantic newborn with jet black scales his clan held great expectations for the furture of Khalldryn. The K'xes clan would only be disappointed. Khallryn was the largest hatchling in a generation for them and black scales were thought to herald the birth of a great warrior. As he grew up his hatchlings always looked to their largest member for the lead, but it turned out he was - for a Barabel at least - reluctant to fight needlessly and slow to anger. In the eyes of his peers and elders this seemed a contemptible traint. They had hoped for a fierce and reckless warrior who could restore some of clans former glory. In some ways they got their wish.

Khalldryn grew to become an eloquent and quick witted Barabel. He became the K'xes representative at barabs single spaceport Alater-ka. Whilst a poor hunter he became an excellent negotiator, picking up off world languages far quicker than most of his race. He became well known for his skills, often speaking in ambiguous terms, using laconic wit, but always keeping an undercurrent of threat in his terms. Whilst still embaressed that the largest K'xes member was loathe to become a warrior, they begrudgingly afforded him some respect. After all the clan was beginning to gain reputation and wealth from the offword trade and bargains that Khalldryn was effecting.

When Khalldryn flew into a rage at an alleged affront on his new mate and killed a rival negotiator with his bare hands the clan elders began to hope that he was becoming the Barab that they had always hoped for. Instead it was the beginning of his downfall. As stories circulated about the giant K'xes who had flown across the table and decapitated his enemy respect grew for the individual and clan. Secretly he felt he had failed in his duty to clan for disrupting important negotiations and his mate made him swear never to draw blood over a minor slight about her again. The circumstances for his downfall were now complete.

The next year a younger Barabel challenged him for apparently insulting his hatchlings. It was a thinly veiled guise as all he wanted to do was earn repute for challenging the giant lizard. Khalldryn accepted and prepared himself to teach the whelp a lesson. But when the challenger issues in insult about his mate, Khalldryn was torn. He had a very simple view of honor and finally made the decision to pull out of the fight to keep his word.

His clan were furious, the individual and the clan had been branded as cowards. Although they came to accept his reasons they knew the damage had been done. Hastening to a decision, they concluded that the best way to regain standing was for Khalldryn to gain honor on the field of battle. There was still an imperial precense at the spaceport and they figured that forcing him to become an 8ft tall gleaming white target no one could doubt his bravery and if he died on some far off world all the better. Khalldryn accepted the orders of his clan as always, even though he realised they just wanted him as far away as possible in the hope that the incident would be forgotten. He would never see his family or mate again.

Appearance & Personality

Khalldryn is above the 98th centile for height and weight for his species, which makes his huge by human standards. Whilst he his strong and fast he is lacks dexterity. This has caused some problems in basic training with equipment usage. Standing two feet taller than the average trooper, many will find it hard to notice any other features beyond his size. Having spent some time in facilities designed for humans he is now quite used to crouching forwards indoors, using his large tail to balance his weight. He often appears somber, accepting his fate as a neceassary duty to his clan. He holds no great love for the Vast Empire, but will carry out the wishes of his clan without complaint. Believing that death in the line of duty may be the best way to regain his honor he may be unwilling to retreat from the field of battle, despite orders - rather perishing that facing further dishonor. When his mood lightens he enjoys the banter common among members of the corps. Many assume his lack of familiarity with advanced technology and brutal appearance betray a lack of intelligence and are suprised when he humiliates them in a game of words.

Recruitment Report

“	I have recently passed on the Barabel recruit Khalldryn on for further training. If i'm being honest we were close to bumping him down to training with the regulars. He's pretty poor with a blaster and makes a pretty huge target. Of course we realised he does have his advantages. Stormtroopers are meant to strike fear into the hearts of our enemies and he'll do that plen'y! He can carry twice the weight for twice as long as any trainee i've had before and we all know thats ninty percent of a troopers job. We also reckon that with his size and that damn'd big tail he could probably take one hell of a recoil. Bet if trained proper he could shoot a siege cannon. Of course we didnt have a full set of stormie armor to hand, we've found a breastplate, helmet and shin plates. The rest will have to be custom made and is on order. E-11's are just sidearms to him and you need to remove the trigger guard off anything with those big claws. We've sent him along with a DC15, that things about the right size for a "carbine" I think. Anyways, thats all i've got to report on the recruit. Could be a good trooper, might just make an easy target on his first mission and take a shot to the chest!	”
