Personal Description

Marcus in civilian clothes

Appearance

Marcus stands at an easy 5'11" and weighs in at 150 lbs. He has a strong athletic frame, and well honed muscles which are the welcomed consequence of having worked in the marble quarry for most of his life.

Marcus keeps his black hair kept short, his facial hair is the same color as the hair on his head, and he usually doesn't let it get past a 5 o'clock shadow. His eyes are a deep blue, a family trait that he inherited from his parents.

When wearing civilian clothes Marcus' wardrobe is rather limited. He always wears a tight fitting short sleeved shirt, boot cut pants, and a pair of combat boots. As for outer wear, he only wears the jacket that he was given when he started his work at the quarry. The red band on his left arm signifies that he was a part of the demolitions crew at the quarry.

Now that he is part of the military, Marcus has to keep himself well groomed and clean cut. His dress code has changed as well, from his mining clothes to his service uniform and the Storm Commando armor that he wears when on missions.

Personality

Marcus had a simple life as a boy. As a kid Marcus easily made friends, and still to this day enjoys the company of others, yet on the inside he prefers to be alone at times to recharge. Because of his job as a demolitions man, Marcus has also become a very level headed man, and never got into fights unless it was absolutely necessary.

Just as well from his career in the quarry, heights and small places were never an issue for Marcus since he was always operating the quarry cranes at one point or another and crawling into small places to plant excavation explosives. Marcus can also lead, though not amazingly well, as well as he can command respect when he needs it.

Biographical Information

Early History

The planet Ralltiir

Younger Years

In the early winter on the planet Ralltiir, Gaeren and Aluna Riley had given birth to a healthy baby boy. Marcus was born into a loving middle class family, and was one of the happiest kids you could ever meet. As a kid Marcus grew up as an only child, his parents never had another kid after him, and they enjoyed the fact that they had one child as it was. Marcus got all of his values, and everything that would make him who he is on the inside from his parents, while the rest he got from attending public school.

Marcus was an average student, but by no means was he stupid. He may not have been the smartest kid out of the bunch, but he was a fast learner and he always did his work. He had no issues playing with other kids and was very sociable, making friends quickly, and always keeping away from the kids who caused problems. At home Marcus had an easy living, and never caused problems for his parents. He always came home right after school, did his homework and then his chores without missing a beat. Soon as his chores were done he would clean up and head out to be with his friends.

Marcus had many friends, his best friend, one who he felt was his brother in every regards except genetics, was Jak Bernum. The two had been in the same class together since their earliest years in school. The two of them were inseparable and went everywhere and did everything together. They shared ideas and plans for the future together, and ended up being in the same class all the way through their schooling. The two of them planned to do great things when they got older, and they swore they would stay friends no matter what happened.

Things were easy for Marcus. he was a happy kid at any rate and at the age of ten he felt things could only get better. Things never got better then he thought, but they never got worse either. Everything just stayed the same and Marcus had no problems with that. Marcus completed his schooling at the age of eighteen, and in an average standing. Either way his parents were very proud of him.

Ralltiir Consolidated Marble

With school finally complete he needed a job, lest he become a lazy bum and end up as a low life like some of the smugglers he had heard stories about as a boy. Both Gaeren and Aluna had worked for Ralltiir Consolidated Marble, his mother left once she met his father, and Gaeren continud to become an asset, and well liked member or the company. Once Marcus had finished his schooling his father was able to get him a job as a miner at the same quarry his father worked at.

The two became even closer over the years, and soon enough Marcus' friend Jak had a job there as well. The three men became extremely close over the years that they worked at RCM, and soon enough it was time for Gaeren to retire. Since his parents had been great allies of the company, and had been good with their money, the two would be able to live comfortably for the rest of their lives.

Marble Quarry

Marcus continued his work with Jak, and soon enough he was just as well liked as his father. Eventually Marcus was given a promotion and a choice at where to go from there. Knowing very well the dangers, but also the great rewards he would receive, Marcus opted to join the demolitions squad in the quarry. Since he was a fast learner, Marcus easily took on the role as a demo man. Since the job required steady hands Marcus quickly developed the skill and retains it to this day.

Marcus always made sure that he worked one of the longest shifts, and always made sure he was on his best behavior for he did not want to besmirch his parents good name. Marcus became great friends with his co-workers and eventually became the leader of the demolitions crew. Jak too soon became apart of the crew as well, and all would go out afterwards to the local cantina and indulge themselves, though not too much. Marcus, though his first experience was a bit of a doozy, soon became a fan of the potent drink known as the Tatooine Sunburn.

And thats how it went all the way until Marcus was twenty 28. Thats when the quarry had closed up because working conditions had become too dangerous. Everyone was out of a job, and though some had worked long enough to live healthy lives after they had lost their jobs, Marcus wasn't so lucky. Marcus was out of a job, though he and his friends from the demo crew stayed close, they all knew they needed jobs.

The crew broke up later that year, as everyone began to move to other areas of Ralltiir, or off planet all together. Marcus and his friend Jak were able to spend one last day together, Jaks birthday, before Jak moved off world as he had obtained a job as a miner for gas on asteroids. Marcus was not so lucky, and he continued to look for a job. Soon enough however, his searching would lead him down a path that would leave him scared for the rest of his life.

Enlistment

“Next!” The alien behind the counter yelled. The line was longer today. Numerous aliens and humans of all shades stood waiting with their papers in hand. It was slow going but everyone eventually made it to the front. “Next!” Everyone took a step forward on the un-employment line.

“Name?” The rodian asked looking up from her console. Her black eyes looked like endless pits. A stark contrast to the white quarries of marble he was used to seeing before he had been laid off.

“Marcus. Marcus Riley.” He said, placing his credentials on the counter and sliding them forward.

The alien behind the counter looked up and at him and frowned. Taking his papers she quickly looked them over and then entered the necessary info into the computer. Sliding the papers back to Marcus she gave him a once over, leaned over and looked behind him to see if anyone was paying attention and then slid a datapad across the counter to him.

“Whats this for?” He asked picking up the datapad and looking it over quickly.

“Just take it and look at it once you get outside. I’m sure you would rather take the offer in their then one of the dead end jobs you will get from me.” She said in broken basic. “Now move along. Next!”

Grallia Spaceport

Waving Marcus away he stuffed the datapad into his jacket and left, shaking his head as he walked out of the small building. Stepping into the mid day sun of Ralltiir Marcus shielded his eyes until they adjusted to the light. Grunting he turned and aimlessly walked away with no direction what so ever.

“How the hell did I end up in such a slump?”

Things had been going well for Marcus. He had a decent job at a marble quarry, an affordable apartment, and hadn’t owed any money to anyone in a long time. He was modestly happy. Then the quarry closed and it was all downhill from there.

Sighing Marcus reached into his jacket and pulled out the datapad the rodian at the un-employment office had given him. A quick tap of the screen brought the small device to life. It hummed while a loading bar flickered to life in the blackness of the touch screen. After a few moments a message began to type itself across the screen.

If this was given to you then it would seem that whoever gave it to you thinks you have potential. Tonight at the spaceport the Vast Empire will be taking in new recruits. Give this datapad to the recruiting officer to redeem your reserved seat.

Marcus read the message over again and smirking at the mention of the Vast empire he stopped in front of a building with a reflective window. Looking at himself Marcus sighed. His jacket was a dark blue that ended just below his knees. It was tattered and worn, a red band was wrapped around the left arm just above the elbow. His black shirt was tight against his muscled upper body which had been honed from working in the quarry for most of his life. His pants were made of leather and were loose fitting. The bottoms hung partially over his black dusty boots. His hair was short and he could see the stubble on his face.

“Well… looks like I’m enlisting.” Without another word he turned on his heel with ease and headed towards the Grallia starport.
