VENI

[edit]
Vast Empire Naval Intelligence is a secretive department of the VE Navy, involved in countless operations both within and without VE space.
The Vast Empire's Naval Intelligence service is tasked with internal and external security for the Navy Division, and is ultimately responsible for securing the Vast Empire by any and all mean necessary. This latter goal is accomplished by working with other intelligence-gathering branches to study the VE's enemies, and through concerted propaganda and misinformation efforts, and through the limited use of special forces Galaxy-wide on assassination and sabotage missions.
Also within VENI’s purview is counter-intelligence within the Navy, routing out spies and traitors in the Fleet and exposing them.
The Head of VENI[edit]
The Head of VENI, and also a member of Naval High Command, is the enigmatic figure known as Captain Grey. All high ranking members of VENI sport the codename ‘Grey’ (though lower level operatives work under a variety of handles) and he is their most senior member. Those serving as the Head of VENI work under the title of Captain Grey, with their true identities only being revealed after they have stepped down.
The First Captain Grey (Wyl Trykon)[edit]
Under the First Grey, VENI was reformed and remade into its current incarnation. The current system of Grey agents was established and he recruited and trained a new generation of Intelligence operatives from the Navy. The most notable achievement of his administration is the famous two-way trap at the Second Battle of Belgaroth, leading to heavy losses for both the Imperial Remnant and the New Republic.
The Second Captain Grey (Pherik Zail)[edit]
The Second Grey built on the structure and growth of his predecessor. He was infamous for wearing a hood woven with hologram technology, covering his entire head and face in constantly shifting static, in order to completely disguise is identity. The first act of this new Captain Grey was to help thwart an Imperial Dominion attack on Abrae. Following that he put in motion a plan to put a deep cover agent at the heart of the Imperial Remnant, and then organised the assassination of the leader of the Imperial Dominion, contributing to its downfall.
The Third Captain Grey (Identity Unknown)[edit]
The current Grey was promoted to the position just before the Battle of Absit.
VENI Resources[edit]
VENI Headquarters is known simply as ‘The Tower’, a dark and haunted part of the Naval High Command building on Abrae, which stands apart from the rest of the fortress maintained by the VEN there. The whole building is rumoured to have once been a prison and torture facility maintained by the Galactic Empire.
VENI staff come and go from the Tower all the time on various assignments with different Fleet branches, and even Captain Grey is not in permanent residence. One member of VENI is always there, however, and that is the Captain's adjutant, Ensign Grey. This woman (blond haired and strikingly beautiful, though cold and utterly professional) spends her time amassing the intel gathered by VENI, preparing reports for the Captain and the agents. Indeed, in the Captain's absence, it is Ensign Grey who operates as the de facto Head of Intelligence and does so with the Captain's full trust.
Though the Tower is VENI's central hub, it is far from the only planet-based installation controlled by the division. VENI operates a number of safe houses throughout VE space and beyond. Some are mundane buildings converted from homes or apartments, where others operate under the facade of dummy cover companies, and contain elaborate communications and computer systems for the use of Agents working there.
Aside from these installations, VENI has access to many ships of various sizes, ages and configurations, to enable their operatives to travel a variety of places undercover. These ships run from small fighters and freighters, up to larger capital ships, representing vessels favoured by a plethora of different species and regimes. Collectively known as the 'Seventh Fleet', the true extent of this shadowy taskforce is unknown.
