A TIE Fighter uses a Segnor's Loop to evade enemy fire.

The Skill: Evasion[edit]

Evasive Manoeuvres are the tricks and tactics that a Starfighter Pilot uses in combat to evade hostile attack, and come in many forms, from simply diving away from an enemy to complex aerial acrobatics like the Skywalker Loop. Evasion is useful in that, correctly used, it ensures that attacks fail entirely to hit your starfighter at all. Truly skilled pilots are able to use evasion to not only negate an opposing pilot's attack, but turn the tables and place themselves in prime position for a counterattack of their own. The infamous Skywalker Loop is a classic example of an evasive manoeuvre used in this aggressive manner.

The Galactic Empire placed an extremely heavy emphasis on evasion in the training of its pilots, as TIE craft traditionally lack any form of protective shielding, relying entirely on their infamous agility and the skill of the pilot to escape damage by hostile attack. This took advantage of the impressive agility of the TIE form and the superior training that it could afford to provide to its pilots. Evasion is a vital skill in any dogfight, able to be utilised both defensively and aggressively, and all of the famous 'Fighter Aces' of the Galactic Civil War and Clone Wars were proficient in its use in combat.

Shields? I don't use 'em. A good TIE Interceptor can stay out of the gunsights of anything our enemies have to offer.

—SCPO Sam "Dunny" Dunn, Interceptor Pilot

Specialisation Mission: "I can't shake 'im!"[edit]

After a week of hard training and simulation, you will attempt to prove you have become proficient in evasion by taking part in a simulated combat against a single X-Wing Starfighter whilst piloting your assigned Starfighter. You will receive sensor information and guidance from a nearby Strike Medium Cruiser, which is assumed to be your mothership. Your objective is simple: Using your knowledge of evasion learned through the resources supplied in this page, evade the fire of the opposing X-Wings for a full two minutes.
VENA Instructors will be looking for believable storytelling and proof that you have learned the basics of evasion in Starfighter Combat.

Qualification Mission: " I know a few manoeuvres."[edit]

After extensive training and real-combat practise in evasion, you are ready to prove you have learned evasion to a higher degree. In a simulated mission, you will engage a pair of X-Wing veterans in combat using your assigned Starfighter (sans missiles and shields). Using your knowledge and experience in Evasion, you will evade the fire of BOTH opposing X-Wings for a full two minutes, then use advanced flight manoeuvres to get in behind each of them.
VENA Instructors will be looking for highly realistic storytelling and proof that you have achieved a high degree of proficiency in the use of evasion in Starfighter Combat.

Skill Equipment: Extra Ion Thrusters[edit]

Originally used in mining operations to assist spacecraft in navigating asteroid fields, a series of small Ion jets are mounted on the exterior of your assigned Starfighter, in order to grant it enhanced agility and responsiveness. These jets are miniature versions of the Twin Ion Drive that propels your fighter, and fire little bursts in time with your joystick movements to make your fighter's agility truly spectacular.

Naval Certifications[edit]

Once you have Qualified in Evasion, you are one step closer to being able to complete the following Certifications:
Ace Starfighter Pilot: Elite fighter pilots whom combine amazing aerial acrobatics with pinpoint accuracy, turning them into killing machine in fighter vs. fighter combat.
Tactical Recon Pilot: Using a fusion of advanced sensor training and spectacular evasion skills, Tactical Recon Pilots are nigh-untouchable on the battlefield.
