The Skill: Wartime Medicine[edit]

For as long as conflict has existed and people have had emotional attachments or responsibility for other creatures, there has been battlefield medicine, even if in early days it was restricted to trying to make the dying more comfortable. If you signed up for the glory or the fame, forget it - war is ugly, and you will see your friends and allied killed in new and horrifying ways. Crushed, amputated, burned, filled with metal: it won't be pretty. However, if you have training in first aid, you might be able to save lives when things do go sour.

Through knowledge of human and non-human anatomy, as well as training with various pieces of medical equipment and correct procedures, a suitably motivated individual can learn to help provide lifesaving medicine in the field of battle - enough to keep a wounded individual alive long enough to be taken back to a field hospital for proper surgery and recovery. You won't be magically fixing anyone with first aid, but you will ensure that they do not die, and that they have a chance of someday returning to their families.

This may smell bad, kid, but it'll keep you warm until I get the shelter up... .

—Captain Han Solo, saving the life of Commander Luke Skywalker.

Specialisation Mission: "I'm hit!"[edit]

You have attended a basic first aid course, in which you have learned the basic anatomy of the various species normally associated with the Vast Empire, and lifesaving procedures that will ensure they survive as long as possible. In this simulated mission, you will provide first aid to a Gran whom has lost a leg to an E-Web repeating blaster, whilst under enemy fire.
VENA Instructors will be looking for believable storytelling, proof that you have researched the subject species, and proper damage and danger management procedures. As always, realistic and interesting storytelling is a must.

Qualification Mission: "Get the medical capsule, quickly!"[edit]

An imperial medical team prepare to perform emergency surgery.

After extensive training and a few chances to demonstrate your ability in first aid in real combat situations, you are finally prepared to take the next step in learning how to save lives on the battlefield. This is no simulation: You have volunteered your services to a field hospital in the calm between two missions. Your objective: Using your knowledge and experience in first aid, you will prioritise and treat five injured VEN members. Each is of a different species, and has a different injury.
VENA Instructors will be looking for highly realistic storytelling and proof that you have achieved a high degree of proficiency in the field of wartime medicine.

Skill Equipment: BioTech Industries FastFlesh Medpac[edit]

A highly sophisticated Advanced Medkit, the Fastflesh Medpac is an extremely powerful first aid tool that contains supplies used for limited bacta treatment, tourniquets, splinting broken bones and cauterising rapidly-bleeding wounds, and contains everything you need for emergency field surgery.

BioTech Industries is at the cutting edge, and has signed a contract with the Vast Empire in recognition of its treatment of prisoners and civilians, and as a result, the medpack granted with this skill is one of the most advanced in the galaxy.

Naval Certifications[edit]

Once you have Qualified in Battlefield Medicine, you are one step closer to being able to complete the following Certifications:
Combat Medic: Able to save lives and take them in equal measure, a combat medic is vital no matter where they are, and an asset to any team.
Imperial Missionary: Diplomats without peer, Imperial Missionaries are respected throughout the galaxy, able to find non-violent solutions to many problems and keep their comrades healthy - physically and mentally.
