From the Naval Archives[edit]

With the success of Operation: Trojan Horse, and the recovery of the Transport Convoy, the Vast Empire was able to resupply their outposts in the Colonies. Much has been learned from the pirates that operated in the area. The main piece of news was the revealing of New Republic forces that travel the area. It was revealed that the pirated were being payed by the New Republic to stop and capture any Imperial Faction ships that travel the area. Traced Communication Logs revealed the location of a New Republic Listening Outpost, hidden in a maze of nebula and asteroids.

The Imperial Navy has decided that this incursion into the Vast Empire's space to be an act of war, and the threat must be eliminated. They have decided that they will send one Escort Carrier, which will carry Viper Squadron, filled with Marines. Once they arrive, Viper Squadron is to leave the carrier and secure the area around the Listening Post. Then the Escort Carrier is to bring the Marines up, who's objective is to take control of the listening post. Once Control is Established, they are to gather all data out of memory banks, and activate the station's auto-destruct. After the Auto-Destruct is activated, all Imperial Forces are to evacuate the area and return to base.

Mission Objectives[edit]

Viper Squadron[edit]

  • Locate Listening Post
  • Evaluate Hostile Units in the area
  • Eliminate any Warning Systems in area
  • Secure area surrounding the Listening Post
  • Hold Listening Post, until Marines Activate the Auto-Destruct
  • Return to Escort Carrier

Marines[edit]

  • Board Listening Post
  • Take Control of Listening Post
  • Download Listening Post's Memory Banks
  • Locate and Activate Listening Post's Auto-Destruct Console
  • Evacuate Listening Post, Return to Escort Carrier

Outcome[edit]

Unfortunately, limited intelligence concerning the area led to the mission failing. The Forerunner was damaged whilst traversing a nearby asteroid field, and was subsequently ambushed by a Neubelon-B frigate, a Mon Calamari Cruiser, and their fighter escorts. Whilst giving a good account for themselves, Viper Squadron took some casualties, and with the Forerunner damaged, the Commanding Officer had to abort the mission.

It is not known how the New Republic will act to the discover of their outpost, and the High Command has not yet dispatched another task force to deal with it. The engagement did however highlight how closely the New Republic were working with the Pirates in the area, as at least one pirate mercenary was present.
