Tall and lean, Karcen Selayen isn't the sort to spend a lot of time training unnecessarily. He's got dark brown hair, hazel eyes and a generally serious look most of the time. He enjoys spending time in his black flight suit but all the same prefers simpler, more comfortable clothes. He's also the sort to try and customize his belongings - whether those are his fighter, gear or other miscellaneous accessories.
Personality[edit]
Generally a friendly and easygoing individual, unless he's in the presence of specimens of the opposite sex - in which case he becomes overly friendly.
Inquisitive and also fairly talkative, the man has no problem mingling with most crowds. He is known to particularly enjoy the presence of women though...
As a fighter jock, and a good one at that, the man is quite cocky and arrogant - aspects which he reveals not only during dogfights but also during day-to-day activities as well.
Although often appearing superficial and uncaring, the man actually looks out for his fellow pilots and friends. He's also not shy about covering for them... though he expects the same kind of treatment in exchange.
Karcen also happens to be a prankster of sorts - targeting both strangers as well as those closest to him. Some of these jokes have even gotten him in trouble on one or two occasions but the fellow still hangs on to his habit...
History[edit]
Crime is a very relative term for anyone having spent any larger amount of time in Hutt Space, Nar Shaddaa in particular. That one single moon seemed to be capable of attracting the worst that the galaxy had to offer. Thieves, smugglers, pirates, killers, gamblers, deserters, spies, drunks, addicts, whores, pimps and all manner of other broken individuals. The people coming to Nar Shaddaa either came because they were running from something or they came trying to get a shot at the easy life.
Karcen Selayen's parents were part of the latter category. They came to the Smuggler's Moon hoping to make their fortunes overnight... and failed at it miserably. Karcen was born into filth and poverty, learning from a young age to survive on the mean streets of Little Coruscant. Unlike most being forced to live on that treacherous moon, Karcen managed to actually grow up more or less alright though. Of course he ended up working for the Hutts in order to achieve that result, but what other choice was there for him?
He stole, he lied and he even killed in order to get by and he did all of this for years before finally he grew tired of it. He put together all the credits he had saved up and bought a one way ticket off the crimson piece of rock. He was disappointed to learn though that the rest of the galaxy wasn't any easier to live in either. Quite the contrary - at least on Nar Shaddaa one knew who held the power and what he could or couldn't do. On other worlds though there were a bunch of rules forcing everyone to behave in a certain way all the while also being those with enough power to break those rules any way they sought fit.
Not knowing how to live in the larger galaxy and also not wishing to return either, the man instead chose to put his skills into the only sort of organization that would happily have him - a military organization. He only joined the Vast Empire because he happened to make this decision whilst being on one of its controlled worlds. He only joined the Navy because he figured that he'd be able to have more fun flying ships rather than being forced to march through muddy jungles, boiling deserts or freezing wastelands...
Karcen was anything but a model cadet whilst undergoing the Naval Academy's courses. He was in fact anything but a model pilot after being assigned to a squadron as well. His record was in fact filled with negative memos and reprimands. These though were only referring to his attitude because hidden underneath the mountain of negative memos there were also some positive recommendations as well. These were made in regards to his flying ability and various missions performance.
When the man finally made it in the newly reformed Vornskr squadron, consisting only of the best pilots in the Vast Empire, well Karcen was actually pretty proud of himself. His personality did not change unfortunately, but then again neither did his flying aptitude either. As Aria Zane's wingman he was able to further improve his skills, becoming even deadlier than before.
Of all the former Vornskr pilots that chose to be reassigned to the Unchained's fighter complement, Karcen Selayen is the only one who did not transfer because of the ship's captain, Seth Qorbin. No, the man did not choose to follow his CO but rather his FL and wingmate - Aria Zane, a female pilot he ended up growing certain feelings for.
