Appearance
Despite her notable feline features, Mai resembles a human female in overall shape and form. Her body is covered in a short reddish brown fur that blends into an unkempt mane of darker, gold flecked hair. Her yellow eyes are wider set than those of a human, with a 'tear stripe' running from the corner of each eye down the side of both cheeks to the base of her chin. Her ears are pointed as opposed to rounded, whilst her nose is wider and flatter to process a greater variety of scents.
Personality
Slow to trust, Mai is a naturally suspicious character. She tends to question or disobey orders rather than follow obediently, a trait which sees her consistently butting heads with her superiors in the Army. She also struggles with a fiery temper common to members of her race. Despite this, she is keenly intelligent, and quick to learn. She is also incredibly loyal to the few individuals who have managed to gain her respect.
As a result of her status as a slave amongst her people, Mai has made her sole purpose in life to strive towards attaining recognition as a great warrior of the Cathar, and earning her right to a bloodhunt on her homeworld. This seemingly honorable goal is tainted by the fact that she hates her own people intensely, and seeks to gain notoriety in order to prove to her clan that her life has not been damned by what she considers their deliberate betrayal of her trust. As such Mai is driven to the point of zealousness, and will let little to nothing stand in her way.
Biography
Born amongst the savannas of her homeworld Cathar, Mai was raised within a prominent clan with strong ties offworld. This unusual alliance between the clan and visiting merchants would prove to be one of the most defining factors in her life as she, along with many other young female Cathar children, fell victim to the growing black market slave trade infiltrating the tight knit structure of Cathar society.
Torn from a life of solitude and relative peace, Mai found herself thrust into the galaxy in order to supply for the increase in market demand for exotic slaves. Initially trained as a dancer, she failed to impress her original owner and was subsequently sold shortly after leaving her homeworld. It was not until her fifteenth summer that she finally escaped the bindings of slavery and fled in an attempt to make a life for herself.
Forced to rely on native instinct as those taught to her failed in the real world, Mai flourished amongst the ranks of thieves and merchants in the festering holds of inter-planetary starship cruisers. It was within the bowels of these ships that she harnessed her genetic capability for hunting and killing for the first time. Introduced to the inherent pleasure of the hunt, Mai actively sought out smugglers capable of offering her a degree of freedom on shuttles of their own. Eventually her reputation would earn her a permanent position onboard a series of freighters in which she continued to build upon her capabilities as a warrior.
After years of dealing with and learning from the worst that the galaxy had to offer, Mai turned her attention towards nearby military organizations to broaden the scope of her knowledge. A Vast Empire recruiting station offered a potentially fresh start, and the promise of a degree of security and stability in an otherwise chaotic daily existence.
