History[edit]
Sputnik was born on Wayland in 13 BBY to a lower-class family descended from the Old Republic colonists. His childhood was three-sided, split between his human family and the two indigenous species (the Myneyrshi and the Psadans). He spent much of his time among the two other races, learning their customs, their history, and their stance on the political situation on Wayland. Sputnik is fluent in both indigenous languages as well as Basic. Early in his youth, he sought coexistence between the races, but in 2 BBY, his family was involved in a skirmish between the humans and the Psadans. His elder and only brother was killed in the fight, and his parents would have also been killed if the small occupying contingent of Imperial troops hadn't broken up the fight. The next decade was scarred with numerous battles between the humans and the native races. The Imperial forces were always the peace-keepers. When Grand Admiral Thrawn returned to and soon there after left Wayland in 9 BBY, he left behind a naval force to compliment the Stormtrooper contingent. Sputnik watched the Imperial shuttles coming and going, wishing he could be on one of them. When he could no longer live with the civil disputes, Sputnik approached one of the naval officers and asked to join. The officer readily accepted Sputnik and arranged for immeadiate transport to the Naval Academy.
