Here lay the remains of the Naval Academy in portions. These pieces of the VENA are left here simply because there may arise a time when they could again be useful, and we'd rather not have to think them back up, so we might as well leave them somewhere we can find them. Enjoy...

Back to the Naval Academy

Entry 01

Taken from the Flight School page, underneath Chapter II and before "The Aviator's Exam."

Chapter III

The previous portions of FS have led to this point- the squadron. While it seems to be a little neglected, all of this has been meant to contribute to your overall activity in a VEN squadron. While all of the information you've looked at seems to be subsidiary to this chapter, they are necessary and pivotal in writing a Naval story post and being active in a Naval Squadron.

The center of our training is in its most basic form, to teach someone how to make a story post so that they might be able to participate in the VEN and its squadrons. This chapter in Naval Flight School will run you through what you need to include in each post and why in the hopes of turning you into an effective and openly creative story poster. They will also require you to make three story posts with little guidance, all of which you will be graded on. This is one of the most important steps of the VENA's Basic Training, so do not take it lightly- it will affect your future career in the Navy. Also included is Squadron protocol which you must read if you intend on going to a squadron; follow the link below to proceed to your task and the one below that to read through the squadron protocol you must know. Inform your commander when you have completed these tasks and make sure to provide all of the requested information in your thread.

Pilot Proficiency Ratings

The Navy uses a point-rating to indicate an individual member's aptitudes. For instance, everyone can shoot a simple hand gun- but how well? By distinguishing with point values, people can accurately build stories around better centered characters, people who know what they are and are not good at. Furthermore, if people start out at 'less-than-tops,' they can look forward to something and build their character. In other words, this will be a very valuable source for more accurate and detailed writing. It also allows people to truly make their characters unique by building on areas of interest. Click the above to learn about the PPR and how you can use it.Please note that the Pilot Proficiency Ratings are currently suspended, pending a think-through and possible re-working. However feel free to browse what is here, so that you may plan for the future. All information here is subject to change. - VENA staff

History

The Naval Training program has been unsure for a long time. At first, the program was simply meant to get people through the wandering phase of VE initiation and to a squadron. However, through the years and various AWOL checks, we've noted that lack of activity and interest stems from a lack of understanding which further grows into uncertainty when posting. That root problem has been the bane of the VENA's existence and it is this regime's goal to eliminate it. Also, by making the sites and information public and easy to access, it should make power and position transfers simple in case of extreme scenarios.

Purpose

The idea behind all of this isn't to give you the actual information to pilot, repair or perform any of the task you'll be writing about, because number one: like we have the resources to give you such information; and number two: this is Star Wars! We prefer you don't go on a quest for a TIE fighter and then attempt to fly it... Instead, these manuals and walk-throughs are to enable you to make good, well charted post that make sense to everyone who reads them- and they're fun. Hopefully, these will diminish confusion or hesitancy when posting or engaging in VEN activities.

Pilot Skills and Studies

Here at the VENA, we believe that there is more to a pilot then just flying. A pilot is capable of learning side skills, ones that will augment their flying, and prove useful to the squadron as a whole. Crash-landed behind enemy lines? Good thing you know some survival skills. Wounded? Then put those First Aid classes to good use. In the Pilot Skills and Studies section, there are a number of extra studies you can take on to help improve your writing.

Please note that this is only here temporarily. It is an active exam, but I haven't decided where to put it yet - HM

EXAM

And so you have arrived. This is the final step in completing Basic Training, the step that will cement your position as a fully fledged pilot. The Exam includes a variety of questions ranging from simple trivia to information about the Vast Empire itself. The idea behind this test is get you interested in the environment you are entering, and to test how committed you are to being a member of the Navy.

Once you have passed this exam, you will be awarded your Aviator's Certificate and placed in a squadron.

The best to you, pilot.

Aviator's Exam

The Road to Independence: (=MA=)

I. Minor Exams (ME)

  1. Technical Exams (TE)
     A. Equipment Exam (ee)
     B. Tactical Test (tt)
  2. Leadership Exams (LE)
     A. Internship
     B. Problem Solving Exam
  3. The Master Aviator's Exam

You've passed the Aviator's Exam and Senior Aviator's Exam! Congratulations, but what's next? Why- the Master Aviator's Exam (MA)? That might seem kind of worthless because you may not have gained much from the last set of test, but this is a little different. After you've completed the MA, you will have the option of leaving a squadron and joining a ship, joining the Academy and becoming a part of the staff or maybe you will just stay in the group and work your way up until you're a Squadron commander or Wing Commander. Either way, this test will, in a sense, release you from the bonds you've been a part of for so long, (which you enjoyed we hope!). In order to take that MAE you must complete the Minor Exams though, abbreviated ME. These consist of two major test with a few sections in all of them. The two test are the following:

Minor Exams

This exam is split into two halves, one pertaining heavily to the Officer's Manuel (OM) and the other to real-life challenges and necessary skills. Just as the OM is, the Technical Exam (TE) is split up into two halves, one half deals with the equipment side of the navy while the other delves into the tactical understanding of pilots. All that can be said is that you must know and understand the following chapters for all exams of the MEs-

Technical Exam (TE)

For the equipment exam (ee)

  1. Imperial Pilot's Person
  2. Imperial Fighters
  3. Imperial Fighters 2
  4. TIE Class Fighters
  5. The Cockpit
  6. New Republic Fighters
  7. Pirate Fighters
  8. Base of Operations

For the tactical test (tt)

  1. Tactical Training
  2. One vs One
  3. One vs Many
  4. The Element
  5. Flight vs
  6. Ship Engagement
  7. Defensive and Offensive

Technical Exam

Leadership Exams
 Must read: EOT

These 'exams' are a little more vague than clear and are more about your direct role in a squadron and how well you perform it. The first thing you'll need to do is let your Squadron Commander know that you've taken the Technical Exams and passed so that you can begin your direct role in the squadron. That role is not something that will be specified here, but by your squadron commander, whether it be collecting and re-sending reports, sending out messages to those who need to be contacted or perhaps designing a portion or maybe even the whole of a story. The designation is up to the commander, basically. After this has been done though, that commander will send the Training staff a letter about what you did and how you proved yourself a capable leader. This should normally be about a week long, though this particular project could be extended or decreased by simply messaging the Training Staff with your commander's consent.

The second test is an actual exam of how well you can solve problems that you're bound to face, such as inactivity, judgment on who's right and wrong and where you should go with the problems you can't quite figure out. You can find that here-

Problem Solving Exam

The final test is one that will be going on throughout the leadership exams, that is... During your Internship. This exam will test your ability to be a good commander and think with a cool mind. You must always remember to think in terms of what is right and wrong, not what feels best because you're happy or sad. Just keep a cool head and you'll be just fine.

Minor Exams (MEs)

Distinguished Status (Distinction: Absolute 100 %): (=*ME*=)
Superb Status (95% to below 100%): (=^ME^=)
Meritorious Status (85% to below 95%): (=ME=)
Passing Status (70%- below 85%): (=ME-)
Waived Status (Exam has been waived): (~ME~)

Officer's Training[edit]

Go beyond the cockpit...

As mentioned above, the VENA can help you go where ever you want. However, the Intermediate Courses can only take you so far. Should you wish for a life 'outside' the cockpit, then you will need to become and Officer. This is where Officer's Training comes in.

Officer's Training is special in that it isn't asking you to improve yourself anymore- it asks you to improve others instead. As an officer, your influence would quite naturally grow, and the decisions you make would thus affect the members under your command. It is thus the goal of this section of training to better equip you with the tools you need to lead your fellow pilots into battle, and to lead them well.

While you should not neglect to improve yourself as a person and as a member of the Vast Empire, the purpose of this section is to help you in dealing with others, whether it be Squadron Commanders or Flight Members. As an Officer you will be expected to lead by example, and to be better then the best. Not for the faint of heart.

I decided to take this out because I'm not entirely sure if its up to date or not. Feel free to restore it back in if I shouldn't have taken it out. ~HM
